Massive influence. This is a really big loss.
Been listening to Phil for over 40 years, and really dig a lot of what he did. RIP, Mr. Lesh.

RIP Phil. As a huge fan of jam music, your influence cannot be overstated. I consider it a privilege to have been on this Earth when you made music.

FYI, he had a YouTube channel going for the past few months, showing a bunch of jams in what I assume was his private rehearsal space. Looks like this was the last posted session.

I may not be remembering the story just right, but I remember seeing some pbs special about some small city symphony that he just mailed a check for a million dollars to with no explanation.
When they asked him about it, he just replied that he was lucky enough to be playing a type of music that generates a lot more money than other types of music, but they were no less important, so he thought it was the right thing to share some of it.

Such a long, long time to be gone….and a short time to be there. RIP Phil.
One of the first electric bass heros, and stayed one for sixty years, showing us how to keep pushing boundaries until.the end. An amazing legacy not just for playing but helping advance bass technology.

Rats! Phil was the first player to inform me that you could play off the root. I’m not a talented or great bassist, but a huge influence nonetheless.
