RIP Steve Albini

Steve used to come into a music store I worked at in the early 90s and was friends with and producer for some of my work buddies.
He seemed like a nice guy with a playful intellect and a lot of curiosity and knowledge.
RIP Steve Albini

Giant Edit:
I was thinking of Jack Endino! What a maroon I am.
Sorry Steve
Sorry Jack

This one really stings. It's hard for me to articulate, but for me Steve was part of a dying breed of guy who I've increasingly looked up to as I've aged, an industry insider who made things accessible and interesting to those on the outside, equal parts curmudgeonly old veteran and endlessly filled with a child-like wonder and enthusiasm. I hold Anthony Bourdain and Henry Rollins in similar esteem. I guess Henry's the only one left of the three.

He recorded some monster bass tones. I guess he is a huge reason I am obsessed with that Traynor TS / Rusty Box sound. The Shellac & Jesus Lizard bass tones are unmatched.

Agreed man. The RB/TS is the core of my sound, and it really clicked once I started listening to TJL, Shellac, and other Albini-produced/influenced records. And then I started seeing all the records he produced with equally crushing bass and guitar tones of different flavors (KEN Mode, Failure, etc). Just insane...

Well said.
