RIP Tim Bogert

Damn. Tim was an amazing bassist and human being, and a great teacher and mentor.
He taught me so much about managing stage fright and owning the stage. And tons and tons about music and singing.
Jam with the angels, Tim.

Back in the early 80’s I played in a band with guitarist Ron LeeJack for a few years.. He played on a few Cactus tunes and was also a member of Wicked Lester.
He lived in NJ and I was at his house a few times. He had a Precision bass that that Tim Bogart rewired. I remember it being two volume controls.. the tone pot was changed to a second volume and each controlled one of the pickups.. it was an old bass and it sounded great.
RIP Tim. Thank you for the wonderful music.

I'm guessing they were both straight-wired to the out? what was the 2nd PU in that bass?

Tim's mod madness is why I'm more of a fan than of his actual playing, he tinkered a ton and I've always hoped to ask him about his satisfactions with his sound and maybe frustrations searching for 'it'. over the decades I've cooled off on BBA and still can't find much Cactus to love, he was an intriguing enigma to me being at the lower end on my favorites list and yet unable to dismiss my interests in his talents. he even seemed reclusive cos he's rarely been seen or heard since the vintage days, yet I always enjoyed the occasional interview. if he didn't write his memoirs that will be extra tragic at this time of loss, if there's anything publishable I hope we see it, all those guys have volumes of tales and priceless info to impart. everybody has a book in them.

Bummer :( He was my vocal teacher at BIT in 1987. He was a great guy. I hung out with him outside Musicians Institute at lunch time. Talked shop. Took a couple tokes together. He really taught me a lot about singing. He was instrumental in making me the good back vocalist I have been through out my bass player career. I had a picture of him and I somewhere at BIT can't seem to find it but I do I will post it. RIP Tim. Hope your jammin up in that great gig in the sky.

RIP Tim ! He was a major influence in my early years. I only had one opportunity to see him live, and got in trouble doing so. Cactus played in Baton Rouge in 1971, and it happened to be the night before the first day of my senior year in high school. Knowing that my parents would have nixed my attendance, I concocted a story to get me there. Sure enough, they had PA problems and did not get started until 10:30PM, which put me getting home early AM of school day. Unbelievably, by story worked with the folks ! I was blown away by Tim, Carmine, and crew, and it was one of my better concert experiences. Thank you Tim for the inspiration !

A picture I took of Tim during our vocal class at BIT in 1987 with one of my classmates.
