Ripoff or Good Deal????

Has anybody had any experience with these Facebook postings that advertise super low price basses and amps? They look tempting, and yes i know if it's to good to be true.....
I just wonder how they can get away with continuous postings on Facebook if they are ripping people off.

If a price of an item is dramatically lower than you expect, you're more than likely looking at advertisements for Alibaba, DHGate, etc knockoff instruments.

I'll admit it.

I ordered a wireless mic off of one of those sites. It was only $40. I figured my bank would refund my money if I got scammed, so no real risk.

I got an email the following day that my order was cancelled. I received a full refund a few days later. I also found that I couldn't log into the shady website anymore.

Then I started getting key chains in the mail - just cheap little trinkets. The return address was from either Kyrgyzstan, China, or Hong Kong. I received 15 key chains in all.

The scam is called "brushing".

They needed my name, address, and credit card to write "verified reviews" of products on Alibaba. I learned that Alibaba's search engine ranks search results on "verified reviews". Each time they shipped me a key chain, it was against some fictitious order of a tablet or other item from Alibaba. Then the scammers wrote a glowing review of the item.

I wasn't out any money and there are probably 15 reviews from "Steven H." written in broken English somewhere on Alibaba.

Besides the minor hassle of having to replace my credit card, the whole experience was surreal and funny as hell.

If an internet retailer seems shady or questionable at all... why would you give them any of your personal information?

There really has seemed to be an increase of these things popping up.

Don't be an idiot, if it seems way too good to be true, stay away!

Good rule of thumb, if you cant try it out, don't buy.
I use FB Marketplace a LOT. Which you can decide radius of distance. Loads better than Craigslist and I e gotten some dang good deals on there (and quickly sold stuff too)

Never trust popups.
NEVER EVER use Weatern Union or WM etc to pay for something online you're screwed if they don't send item.

But ESP with music and electronics, I never buy b4 I try.

I'm the queen of killer deals, including Ebay, and local p2p sales.

How do you define rip off.
Selling cheap stuff at cheap prices sounds about right.

Are they selling cheap stuff and passing it off as a brand name, or charging brand name prices for knockoffs?
That's a whole other matter then.

I made the mistake of buying a credit card wallet from an ad on FB. It really looked good, solid aircraft grade metal and for $65 i hoped it was going to be as strong as the advertisement suggested with it showing a car driving over it.

A few weeks later i received the cheapest piece of plastic crap i've ever seen. I have never felt so ripped off in my life. The biggest surprise was that they refunded me without question.
