Ristola Club

I still can't get over that myrtle topped fiver at LAG...man, what a great bass!!!

In other news...I just found the body wood and top for my next Ristola 6 string.....all cherry. Medium figured cherry for the body and an outstanding piece of figured cherry for the top. I can't wait!!! Nickybass and I are both up for the next batch!:hyper:

Have you spoken to Kent about the pickups? I'm almost positive that he's the one for me--I just need to have the covers made.

We're up next. Me and Brian are cooking up something interesting. He is going to mock it up in Illastrator.

For those who don't know the specs:

-Singlecut 5 string
-Alder Body
-Spruce top
-Maple neck
-Rosewood board
-Passive VVT controls
-Black hardware
-Kent Armstrong custom pickups (Probably)
-Of course some cool pickup covers and knobs TBD

Everytime I talk to Brian, I get more and more excited about this one.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with!

Here are my specs:

33" scale 6 string double cut; bolt on
cherry body
figured cherry top
maple/purpleheart neck
26 fret stabilized ebony fingerboard
16.5mm string spacing at the bridge
custom Kent Armstrong dual coils
ACG filter based preamp


Man, these are two very different, very exciting basses coming up!:hyper:

Oh, I forgot to mention that mine will be a 34" scale set neck design. Yeah, two very different basses, but they'll both be killer, to be sure.

Right now, I'm talking to Kent about bar/rail alnico magnets. The neck will be a split rail design and the bridge will be dual rail. These will both be housed in Bartolini sized ebony covers.

And those new knobs are a MUST!

Yes, the knobs from David King are really wonderful, although I just noticed yesterday that they don't have indicator dots. I'll have to ask for that.

Andy, yes Brian is doing a set neck for this bass. We talked about a few other ideas, but it made the most sense. The goal was to get a nice mix of modern and old school tone. To get the vintage vibe, we wanted to maximize the alder body wood. This eliminated the neck through idea. But, at the same time, to get the modern philosophy, the set neck seemed like the way to go.

I'm sure David will do pointers for you. Check these out:

Yeah, look at those! I thought they were metal when I saw the knurled ebony...very nice.

Hey Nicky. Here's the only pic of the top that I have right now. The board is quite large so I'm not sure what part we'll be using but it gives you an idea.

As far as where to get wood, check first with www.sharpslumber.com. They're really close to Brian. They may not have what you need but they could possibly suggest someplace close by.

Also check in with www.hearnehardwoods.com. That's where I got all of the cherry for my bass. Great people as well.

If those don't work, just google Spruce. I found a bunch of places with figured cherry just by searching the web.

Just looking around online, I noticed that there is no shortage of spruce. It's all pretty similiar too. I want something plain.

Man...I allllllmost ruined my chances of the next bass when I saw that the Low End has a Tyler bass that I want BAD! I just can't do it though. I LOVE the old Tyler basses and have either played that bass or one just like it. The one that I played was a five string players desert island piece for sure. It's really special.....however, I'm a six string player and have dreamed of the semi hollow six for a few years now. I had a Nordstrand, the only like it, a few years back that was semi hollow and the idea was perfect. Now that I have a much better idea of what works for me in a bass I have to let Brian take a swing at it for sure.

cool that you found some spruce online so quickly. I figured it shouldn't be difficult.

Well, here is a rendering of mine. (I removed Beav's logo because I modified it in Photoshop and didn't do quite as good a job as he would have. Didn't want to tarnish his rep with my sloppy Photoshop chops.)
