Ristola Club

Hey all. I hope everyone's well. If you'd like to follow Brian Ristola on his hike through the PCT on the west coast, go here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Glen, how's the new fretless treating you?

This bass is a wonder, and it certainly deserves a better musicien than me!

I've had a few adjustments to do, but Brian always comes through to answer my questions, even when he's on the trail.

I love the Delano/Nordstrand combination. I play mostly with the bass and low mids cranked, very little highs. I find some lovely sounds in many combinations of the bridge and neck pickups, with and without the piezo.

And, I'll never go back to playing without a ramp; it really helps me on right hand speed and precision.

The only regret I have is not to have done the fretlines in Yellowheart. The Mohagany is aesthetically pleasing, but not practical for playing. I may see with Brian if he can rework that...

Up until a week ago I was playing every day, making great progress on my intonation and positioning on the neck, even up the neck where I was having intonation trouble on my Roscoe. Unfortunately my work is getting in the way of my play, and I'll be travelling for the next three weeks. I'll be back home early July, and'll have to start all over again.

Glen, just think about where you'll be in a year with that bass. You'll make such a leap forward I'm sure! So happy to hear you're in love with it. When I plucked a couple of notes on it I knew you would! It really is something special.

Hey guys. I have slowly been selling off some of my electrics. I haven't been playing as much electric these days, and I am planning on, albeit in about 2 years, upgrading my upright. I have been toying with the idea of selling my last Ristola. I've had it for about 3 years and it is a great sounding and feeling bass, but it isn't getting the love that it needs.

You should put up a photo and the specs Nicky.

Here are a few pics:

As to customer support on Ristola basses, since he's apparently not a full time/dedicated luthier/builder, it may be a bit of a disappointment when it comes to support or service if you have an issue. I have just come to find that out myself....but otherwise it looks like a superb instrument and plays fantastic.

I'll keep everyone in touch one this as it unfolds more....good if people know the whole story and not just the pretty parts.

In my experience, Brian has always been nothing short of fantastic with customer service. I'm sure that he will get in touch and resolve any issues above and beyond expectations.

+1

Brian is hiking a very intense 5 month journey right now. If he hasn't gotten right back to you than it's because he doesn't have internet access at the moment. He obviously can't repair anything himself right now.

+1,000,000,000 :eyebrow:

Brian pretty much takes customer service to another level, beyond words. To hear his name and "not dedicated" near one another is simply outrageous. Like Andy said, he's hiking thousands of miles and you'll still hear back from him....if that isn't customer service I don't know what is.

Didn't know that , let's just say that I have been stung by that bee once before (not going to say who it was or if they use a sword inlay on their basses)
It was actually a simple/stupid question, but never hearing back might have meant if it was important I'd be hanging. AWESOME bass I must say.....
