Hey all! Jumping in with another incomplete gig report (one of two for this weekend)...
This was a local-ish "Friday In The Park" date in Dayton Oregon... It's a local community type gathering with a number of booths and small businesses represented. Nice little green space in the heart of the town with a fair number of folks in attendance.
Beautiful evening for a gig, with the weather cooperating nicely, even though traffic didn't. Dayton is typically a 15 minute drive from my front door, but with recent traffic changes, combined with Friday night traffic, it turned into a 45 minute commute! Shame on me for not fully anticipating this. Made for a bit of a nail-biting commute, (sans photos), followed by a rushed setup!
Bill's smirk is two-fold... One, because I arrived just as the guys were nearly setup, and two, because I obviously missed the "black tee shirt" memo! (I was wearing plaid)... That's the "Brothers Bartolotti" in the background, with Rick wearing the black cap and black tee shirt, and Tony wearing the black... Wait a sec... Tony's leaning over the fence chatting and Rick is wearing the watch
You may recognize those two from other gig reports as "Big Chief & The Hedgehogs"... I've played with Rick and Tony in various formats for nearly 20 years. Fantastic folks!
It's pretty rare anymore that any of the groups I play with do these types of gigs without a sound company providing the PA, but we were carrying the sound for the event with a medium PA... Of course, this means no bass in the mains... That just means that it's the one time in the year that I get to use the full "stage" amp!!
You can see my little red Ford Focus in the background. Happily, there was no easy load in, so I got to schlepp this across the lovely grass with my bad leg! PF50-T into two PF115-HE's... I wasn't going to try to carry the gig with this alone (though I have done several smaller outdoor gigs like this). I brought along the PF500 to use as a power amp and it worked phenomenally well!!
A couple of "not necessarily gig-report" notes on the above... First, "Why not just use the PF500 in the first place?" Even though it is a great sounding amp in it's own right, there is a definite richness in tone that the PF50-T brings, even with EXACTLY THE SAME SETTINGS! I did A-B testings and clearly heard a depth with the PF50-T that wasn't in the PF500. I gigged the PF500 for years, and know it's great, but this was more greater Second, you may also note that I'm using the pre-amp DI rather than the balanced out from the transformer. I've fed the transformer out to large PAs on several occasions, and sound guys have raved about it! For some reason, I noticed a significant drop in volume between to two, and for my application, volume was key... Last, but certainly not least (and not noticeable from the pic), the quality of the patch cable. When I was buying the XLR-1/4" cable, the guy at GC was really pimping the Mogami cable over everything else. My local GC has personable sales folk, so I listened. He encouraged me to buy both the LiveWire and Mogami and bring back the one that I didn't want to keep ("just don't tell my manager")... Again, noticeable difference... Kept the Mogami...

Bill is seriously wondering if this guy is ever going to get off stage!
Partial crowd shot as the announcer drones on... This is the quarter that was on my side of the stage... It filled out pretty good about 10 minutes into the music, with lots of kids and families showing up...
No playing shots, (as always), but the signal chain for the evening was the Blue-32 into an fDeck HPF, PF50-T (PF500 as power) into the 2 PF115-HEs... Plenty of bass!!

Happily, I had a buddy show up that I haven't seen for a few years... It was great catching up as I was tearing down, and he helped us all carry gear to the various vehicles! They have music here every Friday during the summer, but no drive up the access to the stage! It boggles the mind!! All-in-all, it was another fun evening playing music, which as we all know, makes us incredibly lucky! Thanks for looking!
