Just came here to post this. Such a great track and an underrated band and bassist.
This is a great video because it shows how this composition is the result of what seems like simple parts. Simple parts often combine to make great music.
I remember reading a Will Lee interview years ago where he said Robert Kool Bell was one of his favorite players.
Old thread. Kool was definitely an influence when it came to his basslines. As a black kid growing up listening to R&B and Funk and Jazz music and learning how to play. Your skill was judged on what you could play. That's how we got into bands. Was not about how good a bassplayer someone was. It was just about the basslines. Is Kool a virtuoso? No but his basslines worked perfectly on his body of work which is massive. I keep Kool & The Gang music in my car.

Absolutely. I have both albums they put out. I believe the band consisted of their kids/nephews. A couple of them got absorbed into the senior band.
