Robert Sledge from Ben Folds Five

Very nice guy & terrific player - I met him in Ashville, NC when the bears were on tour 2 years ago. He came to our show & was very complimentary...at the time he was out of a gig. Glad to see he's got something going again...Ben Folds was much better with him IMO.

Yea, Robert and Darren really kept Ben grounded I think. I mean, I personally like all of Ben's solo stuff (even the avant "Fear of Pop" album) but I think I will always like the Ben Folds 5 stuff the best. I mean, they had such a chemistry that you could feel it in their records. I think the fact that Rob and Dar being from a hard rock background really helped round out the sound of the band. If you have an actual piano in the band, you need to have some real rockers in there to make it sound like rock or else you just sound like they did on "Brick"....

Years ago I was playing with a band called the Glad Hands, and this wasn't too long after "Whatever..." came out. So, of course I'm cranking it on the way to the bar. Turns out the Glad Hands were/ are from NC, and Robert Sledge played on their album. Which I bought, just because he was on it.

Scary good, that one is.
