He makes great basslines that sound really good, if you listen to Dark Side of the Moon, a lot of those songs get their sound from his bass playing

Waters' playing on the Pompeii dvd is great, it's simple but it grooves. In my opinion this was their best era. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Pompeii marks the end of Pink Floyd's psychedelic era before they became more "concept album" oriented and it is my most favorite music video of all time. They'd been playing those songs together for years and knew how to really groove with each other to get the most out of the songs.

Pink Floyd live at Pompeii is, IMO, the greatest piece of psychedelic music/video ever recorded. I don't think Rog is a particularly good bass player but you will see no greater example of Roger Water's bass playing than here - and he really is grooving.

I wonder why someone like Roger Waters never gets crap for being a below average bassist and Gene Simmons does?
I'd say gene is a better bassist easily...But Pink Floyd writes "serious" music and Kiss is about girls and partying so thats why I think Roger Waters gets a pass...

Waters wasn't really that good at all. At best he's average. He made it clear that he didn't like the bass and would have rather'd play lead guitar. He's a great song writer but average musician.

I am a huge Floyd fan (obviously) and I think Roger Waters is an incredibly talented songwriter. Anyone who thinks he can play lead guitar needs some help though, the guy can barely play bass. Gilmour played most of his parts in the studio.

The only underrated member of Pink Floyd was Richard Wright. Quite a lot of Piper through Wish you were here was his. Guy Pratt said that after joining the Floyd tours, he never realized how much of Pink Floyd's sound was due to Wright and Gilmour's ability to mesh together live.

The Soundtrack from More and Meddle are two of my absolute favorites from them. 'One of these Days' was the line that really initially stood out to me and 'The Nile Song' is just an awesome piece of music, but IMO, the most classic Water's line is 'Young Lust' from The Wall

I think of Waters as an "artist" who played in a band. A lot like I think of Lennon . . . who was probably the least musically disciplined Beatle.

Also, you don't have to be a nice guy to succeed in music. I have learned to separate how I feel about a musician to how I perceive his or her public persona. Chris Squire, I am told, is really unpleasant to work with (which may explain why Yes has like 15 extant members in its long career) but I love his playing.

Waters' singing, however, is just awful. I heard a live recording of him doing one of the songs on The Wall. I don't correctly recall which song it was but he was horrifically out of tune and his voice sounded totally strained. I wasn't able to listen for long before I had to turn it off.

Yeah I was a huge Pink Floyd fan for a while and Floyd was all about Waters for me. I love the Final Cut. I saw Gilmour's Floyd tour Momentary Lapse. It was the BEST sounding arena show I've ever seen. Still a great show though not the real thing without Waters. They had Guy Pratt on bass- what a monster! I'll never forget them opening with "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." That first bass note just resonating in my chest with their insane sound system.

Yup. I saw that show too, at the Pontiac Silverdome, and I also remember that first bass note, which seemed to shake most of the city. A truly Epic show. I missed the last Waters tour. I hope he does it again. No more 'Pink Floyd', I suppose, without Richard Wright... Another true genius, he is missed.

I love Pink Floyd and I love the fact that Roger was there when he was to arrange and write the music for several of their albums, but; he's an ok bass player, not great, not bad, just ok. His music genius is sensational, but he has a bad habit of alienating his band members. Gilmour contributed more to the bass then Roger ever did with Pink Floyd.

When I listen to live at Pompei, I'm stunned, everything is beautiful and the bass is very sophisticated. "Echoes" is a master piece and the bass part is beautiful. Even "Careful with that axe" has a difficult bass line, if you listen to it carefully (carefully ).

Actually Roger Waters is one of my main influence in bass and music in general, although I listen to more technical bass players like Jaco Pastorius, Paul Jacksson or Linley Marthe.

But seriously, I've always loved Floyd. Whoever it was playing bass on whichever track, Roger Waters certainly was a major factor in the sound of the whole band.
