Rogue Viola (VB100) Bass Club

Very cool! You got a late model as well. If you pull the control cover, you'll see that they are now made with the sides, top and back are all of the same thin material, which is much more resonant than the earlier ones. You'll also see kerfing around the corners like an acoustic guitar. Very well made, and sound great! I have one next to me now, to work on songs for tomorrow's show.

Hi there, new to the site and to Bass Guitar in general. I've been playing guitar off and on just for my own entertainment and I think I want to try bass. After some searching around I came across a Rogue Series II VB100 Bass on craigslist for $125. I was never a big fan of the Beatle Hofner Viola style bass, but I just want something inexpensive and this seems like it might be the ticket.

I've noticed that the picture that Musiciansfriend have on their website make the bass look really yellow (almost honeyburst like in appearance). Have any of you purchased the bass from them recently and can tell me if it really has that honeyburst color now or is it just bad pictures on the musiciansfriend website? Also, what string gauge is this bass strung with from the factory? And, will La Bella beatle bass strings fit this bass?

Take a look at FerruleCat's VB-100 in post #109; it's new, so that's what they should look like, pretty much. What are they strung with from the factory? Junk roundwounds from the People's Revolutionary String Factory in China. Throw them away ASAP. Will the La Bella Beatle Bass strings fit the VB-100? Yes, they will. Almost all medium scale length strings will fit, in fact. The VB-100 (and almost all short scale basses with a trapeze tailpiece) need the extra length because of the extra distance back to the tailpiece. Some companies (like Pyramid) make "short scale" strings that will also fit. In Pyramid's case, that's because they come stock on the German Hofners - and always have. So, if what you're after is the "authentic", early Beatles sound, ....:)

That's a good price! If you've been wanting one of these, I'd jump on it. I haven't seen a NIB one for any less than that. I checked and couldn't find the "open box" model that ivorytower referred to. I love mine!

Ja. I ordered one from MF a month ago. They keep sending me notices that it's not yet in stock, but that they'll send it along when it is. Thanks MF. Just send the bass. No need to tell me that you can't yet.

I have a set of chrome flats left over from a returned Squier SS Jaguar bass that I intend to put on immediately upon arrival.

Hello all - just found this site. I happened on it because after using my vb100 for almost 12 years, I decided to get a Hofner CT 500/1. Ordered it from MF and when it arrived (yesterday) I figured I'd never use the VB100 again. Well, the Hofner neck was bowed in a strange way - sent it back and I'm waiting for a replacement. What I did learn having both of them side by side was that the Hofner looks much better. But that's where it ended. The VB100 plays so well. I will hold on to it for sure. Maybe the next Hofner will make it redundant but I don't think so. The VB100 also records really well, I've done many home recordings with this and it sounds great. I was surprised to read here that they are practically solid bodies (the old ones). Anyway, if the newer ones are as good if not better than the old ones, you can't go wrong with this bass.

Did get the replacement and yes, it's awesome. Put flats on it and compared it to my PBass, fender mustang vintage and rogue. The Hofner DID sound better (to me ) than all of them. Clarity of notes, clean but boomy bass sound and ease of playing.

Still love the Rogue but the Hofner simply sounds better. All my basses have flats. The Hofner bested them in terms of clarity, tone and definition. Of course if you're on a budget, Rogue is awesome.

I'm going to keep the Rogue but when it's time to record I'll go To the Hofner. And the Hofner is beautiful.
