Roland Bass Cube 100

So I'm a guitarist that "also plays bass". I've been using a Yorkville Bassmaster 200T for years (blue fuzzy one). It's served me fairly well.

I just bought a Roland Micro Cube Bass RX, and love it. Thinking of getting the CB-100.

I have had great experience with the Cube line. The Cube 60 is an amazing amp for guitar, especially at the size, wattage, and price point, when compared to other, bigger, more powerful, more expensive amps. Even tube amps.

Obvious question: Does the CB-100 do for bass what the Cube 60 does for guitar?

FWIW, I haven't used a CB-100 but I do have a ton of Roland gear, some of it over 20 years old and still going strong (most recently, a Microcube Bass RX, and yes, I agree that it's great). I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed with a Roland purchase. Sometimes things have been a little pricey, but it has always worked out. I can't say the same for some other brands. I'm not much of a brand-loyalist, but Roland does seem to know what they're doing.

And speaking of which, does anyone have any idea on what will replace the Roland 2400cd digital multi-track? I went looking for one and everyone says they've been discontinued.

I have a CB-100 and like a bunch of things about it: size, portability, volume, depth. It's impressive. It is deceptively small for its big sound.

However...it can sound compressed a bit. And it is to be expected, I guess, when you try to optimize speaker, power, sound in such a small box. I have added a, SWR 1-15 below it and it gave it more depth.

It's a neat package of compromises that work well.

I've got a the CB-100 and found the DI to be very nice in performance. Very clear sound. Basically, what went through the PA was what was coming out of my amp. For the most part, I like this amp. There are some things about it that I could do without, but it's mostly a matter of taste.

I'm speaking about at this price point. I don't expect Ampeg 8X10 tone for 500 bucks! But I do want great (I know, it's relative) tone for my needs.

For a bassist (or keyboardist or anything) looking to dabble in guitar with this question, I would recommend the Cube 60 in a heartbeat. Is the CB-100 what I'm looking for?

I highly recommend the Cube 100 to anyone looking for great tone, versatility, portability, in an affordable package. (mine's in the TB classifieds) I had to pay $1200 to get something better IMO. (GB Shuttle 6.0-12T)

I played the Cube 30 before and it was amazing. Hands down it was the best $300 amp I've ever played, and almost bought it from my friend right then and there. After I get a cab for my Mesa I'll be getting a Roland Cube combo for practice and travel.

You can't go wrong with this amp. Tons of useful tones and features.

It's kind of a solution to get a active PA cabinet to support Cube. EA has even 200W self powered Wizzy cabinet which seems to be very nice. I wonder how many people use such "hybrid" rigs?

But there is Cube's output for a passive speaker. Manual states 8Ohm max impedance (and minimum is?) and power tolerance for 100W. Does it mean Cube can pump another 100W to external cabinet?
(block diagram suggests there are two amp sections...)

Believe it or not (I didn't at first) the speaker output jack is wired in 'series'. So you could run either a 4 or 8 ohm speaker from it and be OK. Any higher than 8 ohms and it drops the power available to an unacceptable level.

The two amp sections are for tweeter and woofer. They did a LOT of thinking when they developed this baby.
