I love something I heard Patitucci say once at a clinic. He said he thinks of jazz as improvised counterpoint.
Yes I was very lucky! I just wish I was as smart as i thought I was back then (24 years ago)! But he was the right person at the right time, though it took years for his lessons to really sink in.
