Roscoe 4-String Shootout

The Roscoe 6-string shootout was so well received, I decided to do the 4-strings, too. On this one, I played the main part of "Black Snake Boogie", an original written by our primary guitar instructor, Greg Albert. There are two tracks of each bass - the lead part and the rhythm part.

NOTE - there's a Century Standard mingled in here, so that should be an interesting listen for ya'll. To my ears, it fits right in

they all sounded great...cool...i love listening to comparisons like these, because i can't hear a bit of difference from one bass to the next...well, maybe just a little...ok, maybe not...they just all sounded super sweet that orange one takes the cake, though...i love that color...and cobalt blue is one of the hottest finishes in bassdom...roscoe does a mean finish job...

Woah, an even harder choice than between the 6ers, and the Century Standard more than hangs.

I'm again [DEL]syuch[/DEL] stuck* between two, the Orange LG, and the Century Standard, dut damn, every one of them is incredible, of course.

The sonic differences are subtle, but they're there. I imagine they're tough to pickout through computer speakers. Give this a listen through some studio monitors or a home stereo system, and you should find that the basses definitely have their own character.

Oh, and I failed to mention this: each bass was recorded with the all knobs (blend & EQ) centered. I went through my Alembic F1X preamp into a Lexicon Alpha USB interace then into the PC/SONAR.

I compressed the lead line just a bit to even it out... that riff is a pretty serious left-hand workout (for us right-handed guys)!

The Standard hangs *right* in there with the rest of them, just perfectly. Nice!

That orange has always looked red to me.


I like it in natural. If only it had a maple neck.

I Loved that SKB when I fiddled in the shop.

Man...if this doesnt fire up a tonewood debate , I dont know what will.... Such subtle differences in these...even with different pickups..WOW

What I like even better is comparing what you recorded here to the clip of the 6 strings. I am not sure if it's the scale length or the neck thickness, but you can hear fatter/darker tone in the 6s even on the same strings. Here, the bass sounds brighter to me...more "growly" even. Interesting!
