Roscoe Beck Forum?

I'm going to chime in here.

I bought my Shoreline Gold RBV in 1998. [SNIP]

Do I get a number?

There seems to have been a revival of this thread! Yay!

Anyhow, still have mine, still love it, haven't had to do *anything* to it since forever. Sounds great, stays in tune, what more could I ask?

I know what I could ask -- could I have number 42? The bass was my 42nd birthday present to myself...

Hey Oldrocker
Mine's an '03, but could be you bass's twin.
Just picked her up a few weeks ago. I've wanted one for a while, found this one on eBay. Was NOS and the price was right. I'm getting used to the neck, but I wish the vol knob was an inch or two south.
All in all, a very cool instrument.

What is the neck profile like on this? Is it thick front to back? Does it feel wide or narrow?

I'm bumping to ask a question. Have any of you guys bought or sold a nice, clean RBV lately?

I ask because I was in a downtown music store this past weekend and they had a very nice shoreline gold example. But, they want $1,800!!!!

I was just wondering if the RBV has reached the level of rarity that it actually has a shot at drawing that kind of money. You can buy a lot of basses for $1,800.

Mine was originally $1500 but I talked them down a bit. Based on eBay they range from $1300-2000 with the modal value probably about $1500. Some finishes seem to be really "hot" like 3TSB and Seafoam.

One of the saddles on my RBV was busted and I feared losing it so I contacted Fender and a guy named Michael sent me a new part. Props to Fender for this.

Not surprised that they sent it to you, but certainly surprised that they had it.

Although, I live in St. Louis. Several years ago, (I am guessing 10 years. 15 at most) I stopped by the actual plant and inquired about a couple of knobs for my 80s vintage Ampeg SVT. The lady went in the back, came back in about five minutes and handed them to me. She charged me something like $1.80 each!! :)

Hey can u pm me that particular contact info lol? There's a chunk taken out of the saddle on my B string and I'd rather like to replace it!

I've owned many Fenders over the years, but I've never seen a problem like the one I've experienced with my RBIV. It's a 2004 and I am the original owner. The finish has been separating from the bass -- I removed a large section of polyester from the back of the bass with my hands.

I took the bass in to Ron Pace this morning. He's Houston's it-may-take-forever-but-the-results-will-be-worth-it guitar guy. The original finish was 3-tone sunburst; I'm having it done in Shoreline Gold metallic. Will post pictures when it's done (which will be before Labor Day, I hope).

Just got it back yesterday -- it took 5 months, but it's spectacular looking. The color is probably closer to Aztec Gold than Shoreline. I will post pictures soon.
