Roscoe Beck Forum?

My current one for the last 10 years, just under 9lbs.

a beauty for sure. Body color looks much like mine, but mine has a rosewood neck.

In various switch positions, my RB IV is perfectly quiet, but I was just wondering if more/better shielding would improve the situation across all the switch setting options. FWIW, I have had mine opened up way more than I'd like because I have been chasing non working switch issues (primarily on the Bridge p/u, so opening the control cavity is no big deal for me.

I think I will just go ahead and plan to improve the shielding with coper tape under the pick guard like @Joebone had, and I'll likely work on the cavity shielding while I'm at it.

Here's mine (bass on the right) when I happened to have 2 of them. The darker one was sold last year.

Sounds like a solid plan, shielding can't hurt especially if some of the noise is not soley from the s/c modes. I don't know that there's a way to totally avoid s/c hum.

My switches are only crackly (is that even a word?) for an instant when actually being switched, including the pickup selector. Beyond that, no abnormal noises. Same with both my examples. I bought both mine used, but in near mint condition, so it seems doubtful that there's been any previous wear that might have caused the switches to become noisy. With that, I'm assuming the little crackling is the nature of the RV switch setup. Small sample, but still...

Please report back results after shielding if you can. Curious minds 'n all. Good luck.

yeah, my switch issues were related to them simply wearing out and the contacts becoming compromised. I replaced one 3way switch for the Bridge p/u, and the 3 way p/u selector switch. Mine was also a used purchase, and when I had it opened the first time, it kind of looked like someone along the line had done some re-soldering/repairs of some kind, and perhaps not very neatly.

Once I get a chance and the materials in hand, I'll take a shot at adding some additional shielding and will report back.

thanks
