I miss the old days of the Roscoe Forum where we had lots of "build" threads with pics and stuff so I'm starting one for my fretless. G072 will be my 2nd fretless, my 3rd custom build and my 8th Roscoe bass. Specs are:
  • Model: Century Standard Plus 5
  • Body: Mahogany
  • Top: Quilted Maple
  • Finish: Oil
  • Pickups: Dual Bartolini Hum-Free J Pickups, JB locations
  • Preamp: Bartolini 3-Band/18V
  • Neck: 3-Piece Maple Neck
  • Fingerboard: Lined Black Diamondwood, Fretless
  • Hardware: Black
Here's a pic of the top:

Rough cut of body is next.

I ordered it just before Thanksgiving. I told Gard I wouldn't bug him for any progress pics until after New Years. He sent me this within like a week of placing the order.

Still gonna hold off sending anything to Gard until after New Years and then see if anything new has happened.

They always seem to have such nice wood and they don't "save it" for the Custom and Signature basses. Even the less expensive Standard Plus line gets top quality wood and the same attention to detail and hand finishing that goes into the Custom and Signature lines. One of the reasons this is my 3rd Roscoe build and my 8th Roscoe overall. An amazing bass is one thing, but an amazing bass built and backed by amazing people is another.

I doubt I'll play anything else.

UPDATE: Nothing to update. :(

It's been a couple weeks since the last time I inquired - and we all know how much can happen in 2 weeks - so I may shoot Gard a note next week and see if there's anything new to report.

Another nothing to see here update. But, this is what Gard sent me today...

"Patience, weed hoppah! ;)

Nothing new yet, but we will be starting the body soon, probably within the next 2 weeks - the good news is the neck is roughed in and ready to final shape, so things will go quickly now. :)"

So, I won't have it for the show I'm playing March 5-7, but it may hit a couple weeks later - right around my birthday.

Thanks. I'm getting fairly anxious now that we're close. I placed the order around Nov 24, got the body rough cut pic just before Christmas. Then nothing for a couple months. Now it'll happen pretty fast. Thankfully Gard is pretty patient with us when we're bugging him for progress pics and updates.
