Roscoe Club

Yeah you’re not wrong. I’ll eventually end up with what I want, and that’s a custom Roscoe. Like I said, just thinking out loud, when perhaps I shouldn’t have :atoz:
It’s okay! Nothing wrong with that! Releasing tension in a positive way is healthy.
We all, or most of us, own a Roscoe or two, and know how special they are. Some of us would even like to be in your situation just trying to get a custom built Roscoe Signature LG6!! WHAT?
Not to diminish your situation at all, but I’ve been waiting on the completion of a (not a Roscoe) 2019 custom ordered build, impacted by so many unforeseen hurdles. I’ve vented about that many times, but it’s getting close to being completed. And when it gets here those years waiting will seem like only…YEARS! Are you kidding me!?!
But playing and hearing it!:bassist: It would be worth the wait.

Well the good thing is, if he's not replying back then it's because he's building basses. Not a lot of folks working at the Roscoe shop these days and Keith and his son Kyle pretty much keep their focus on building basses and getting them out the door. Sometimes it's just better for your dealer (or you) to just give Keith a call and talk.
Also, the best thing that you can do is get all of your questions together and asked them all at once. Then you can officially schedule the build, pay your deposit down and you go from being a tire kicker to a legit customer. You can imagine how many folks ask a lot of questions concerning a potential build that never officially start one.
:)

I’ve received a bass earlier this year that I ordered in April 2019 that hasn’t met expectations. A very pricey instrument also.
I truly hope yours hits all the marks, it’s a long, long time to wait!

I’ve had two 3006 basses, before the standard series were a thing, and they were so good. I was at university when I owned them, and sold them to try other things. I was a dummy. That’s why I’m so desperately trying to get back in! :smug:

Thanks for your post, @Nightman

Lol
Yeah. Things now are as they were prior to Gard. I built 2 bases prior to Gard that I never saw the tops or anything prior to receiving the basses.
Gard was just wonderful! Great communication and great progress pics.
Of course the “2 more weeks” was still in place!:roflmao:

It takes a lot of patience when dealing with small to one-man shops for their much sought after creations. Many stories can be told about the waiting game and, sometimes, disappointment after the delivery!
But it’s the price to pay, and particularly since 2019, for wanting something specifically built from your specs for you by a renowned builder!
How cool is that?
Never disappointed with a Roscoe, even if it's a but of a wait right now. I wish I was skilled at installing electronics or something that was needed there. I'd love to move away from winter.

 Move away from North Dakota winters?!? I just bet you are ready to move away from that! I spent 16 months stationed at Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota as an E5 ranked Security Forces on the Alert Pad. Before then I thought "Cold" was in Chicago!
Actually, it doesn't take electronics education to install a pre-wired preamp. Just some simple soldering know how and understanding of what wire should go where, which I'm sure Keith will teach you.
Maybe this winter will be the one to convince you to take that leap of faith and become the go-to guy at Roscoe that gets things done, quick, fast, and in a hurry at 2 more weeks speed!

@geggy spoiger : The waiting game ("2 more weeks," ha ha) is part of Roscoe lore, but in a good way. Why? Because KR delivers. He and his son have worked through the entire pandemic without closing shop. Now they face part shortages, while often working 7 days a week to meet demand. In contrast, there are builders that quote years, and not months, for build times. While it's always challenging to wait, my experience is that it is worth it. Keep the faith, while also being persistent.

Well stated Fritz.
The wait time for a Roscoe, even at the worse case scenario, is far better than most boutique builders.

DOH! Don't mention the "2 more weeks" thingy!! :wideyed: Geggy just might be listening.

How dare you

Haha yes! I’m aware :) I don’t participate in the thread much, but I’ve been following for a long time. I understand all the roadblocks now in the way of getting a custom instrument built. I’m not mad or anything. It’ll all come together when it does, and they’ll deliver a spectacular instrument, I’m sure.

Once you firm up all the specs we’d love to lust over them (as well as any progress pics Keith sends you).
It’s been a while since I’ve done a new build. Not sure that I have the patience anymore. But I do remember the excitement and anticipation! Awesome feeling!

I can give you the specs that have already been OK’d by the man himself so far.

Exhibition quilt top - Slate blue/green
A few mm of taped off ‘binding’ left natural
Natural mahogany body (PRS guitars example pics below of what approx what I’m after
Roscoe Bart/Bart system
Birdseye fretboard with mineral streaking/staining

Now what seems to be the hold up is the neck construction, as I want a composite wenge wedge neck, with wenge, maple and either padauk/bubinga/bloodwood some kind of reddish wood as the stringers.
Keith has mentioned a few times that he has pre glued wenge/maple neck blanks already built, but that’s not what I’m after. He seems reluctant to build what I want from scratch, even though I’ve sent more than a few past Roscoe example pics of his own Signature necks which feature these type of woods and construction.

So my dealer is going to bat for me, trying to get the neck that I really want as a part of this build, and Keith I’m told is ‘thinking on it’, and if it’s a deal clincher he ‘might’ do it :roflmao:
It’s too much money for me to be spending to not get what I really want, especially when he Roscoe shop seems to be a true custom shop in terms of neck woods, their own Instagram is proof.

So that’s what I’m waiting on I guess, Keith deciding if he wants to build my (to me) relatively simple Signature neck, that he’s built many times before.

If it comes out looking anything like that PRS top it will be amazing. GL.

Keith said he will do the sanded back, black double stain before the final coloured stain is applied. So fingers crossed it should look much similar.

We’ve all seen how good Roscoe are with their finishes, I’m not worried. It’ll be tight y’all :roflmao:

The issue with the neck woods might be the way they do their neck glue-ups. They glue up large boards which results in a big block that gets sawed down into 5-6 neck blanks. So it wouldn't be just your order that gets that neck wood combination, Keith would also have to sell the other 4-5 neck blanks that result from that custom glue-up. I'm guessing he doesn't sell a ton of wenge wedge necks, so he may have a strong inclination to use the existing neck blanks that have already been made.

The wenge wedge neck is one of the prettiest necks out there. I hope you can get what you want! If you have any friends considering a Roscoe build, another 1-2 orders with wenge wedge necks might help push Keith over the edge.

Hi Greg, thanks for your insight into the process!

It’s definitely something I had considered, especially when I noticed Keith’s tone in his replies to my dealer which were conveyed to me. But I just can’t settle for the already laying around neck blank woods, when it’s not what I want in a signature model neck. If getting the woods I want means I’ll have to wait then that’s fine, I just need to hear it from the shop. I did a 24 month wait recently from Dingwall standing on my head, build time isn’t a worry to me. I just want to know.
