There's an SKB 5 at Bass Central with different pickup placement and it doesn't sound good at all.

I think I would switch the bridge and neck pickups around on that bass. Bartolini uses a different pickup for Treble and Bass so switching pickups may reduce some of the boomyness and rolling to the bridge may give a great "P" tone.

Well, I'm fully back in the Roscoe camp after a few years of trying other basses. I just picked up SKB 3005 #6490 from Gelb Music in CA. Exhibition Boxelder Burl over Ash with a Padauk fretboard. It will go nicely with my SKB 3005 fretless; Maple over Mahogany (painted jet black!) with an unlined Diamondwood board.
Of course, pics when the new SKB arrives.

I've played that bass - what an instrument. Possibly the one bass that could change my mind about ash. Congratulations, and welcome to the family!
