Roscoe Club

Tough to find. You can sometimes get them direct from John East in the UK but he has been out of stock for so long. I managed to find a set from a fellow Talkbass member. I’ve also been talking with Pete Skjold about his custom Hipshot knobs. Those are really cool too.

Anyone ever have their Roscoe fretless with diamondwood converted to fretted?

It can be done Deon but it would most likely require a new fingerboard because the alum lines are epoxied in the slots so it would not be feasible to reslot and fret.
If it was an unlined fretless it definitely could be fretted but not a Roscoe lined neck.

I was surfing around on the internet and found this picture. So cool!
Abe Laboriel, playing a Roscoe! He's been such a huge influence on my playing.

Yeah, big influence when I started playing bass as well. He has such a unique approach to phrasing and technique. He can make the most mundane arrangement and turn it into a groove masterpiece.

It's dated, but still a gem ...

Diamondwood (the material) is very dense and very hard. Matter of fact there's very little wood in it. It's a wood/resin lamination that is cured under high pressure.

Even if you were able to overcome removing the existing wire markers, and cutting the fret slots, I'd be skeptical of being able to seat the frets.

It’s a moot point (since the Diamondwood has aluminum lines epoxied in) but Zon puts frets in Phenowood all the time (and it’s basically the same as Diamondwood). It just requires a slightly wider slot due to it’s hardness.
But I think the point has been driven home that nobody really wants Deon to modify a wonderful iconic fretless (and a piece of Roscoe history).

Play on Roscoheads!:bassist:

Yes the very reason why I've decided to pass on this wonderful instrument to another tber! This FL really is a collectable at the point. This bass was the reason I ordered my old spalted Century. That was a beautiful bass that I miss! And speaking of... I wonder who has it now?
