Roscoe Club

View attachment 5432690 View attachment 5432691 Well here we go again. Another beloved Roscoe back to its rightful owner. Here's the one I'm looking for. If you see it/have it/sold it to somebody I would like to talk to them.

It's old, '80s or early '90s, called an LG 2005, active EMGs, three knobs (duh), MPM neck, Burly-man walnut flat top. Kind of like a standard I guess. It's what started my Roscoe obsession

Yeah. Some folks get fortunate enough to get one back but unfortunately in our Gas fueled world so many basses travel far away never to be seen again! And of course some get them back only to trade or sell them again. Sometimes out memories of that awesome bass are better than the actual bass.:)

I will say this though, I played a bass from that era (with EMG’s) and it sounded great! I was quite surprised at how well it sounded.

Having bought and sold the same bass 3 times. First was the initial build. Gigged it the day I got home from NC. Sold it aftr a few onths. Just wasn't clicking. 2nd time was a "I need to give it a real chance" purchase. Just didn't use the C string like I thought I would. 3rd time was for nostalgia. It was my first Roscoe build. I have my 2nd and 3rd so I should have my first. That was dumb. Why have a bass I'm not going to play.

It was still as awesome as I remember each time. When I ordered it, I planned on it being my main, do all bass. My first Roscoe build. 6 string. Jazz pups. Amazing quilt maple top. Georgious wenge board. What's not to love? I just didn't ever make a 6 string work. Can't say I didn't try.

Thankfully, I was recently able to get my fretless back and have my "matching pair" of Roscoe Century Plus 5's - fretted and fretless. Really all I would ever need. And was my initial plan years ago.

I deeply regret selling this one:

The reason that we buy, sell and trade basses changes like the weather.
Back in the day I didn’t need a good reason to sell or trade. I was all about trying different basses. Now days I’ve settled into some main basses and I’m really a lot more content. But that being said, I traded my Roscoe fretless last week for a fretted Roscoe 6 and I said just a few weeks ago that I’d never trade or sell the Roscoe fretless. It was quite clear though that I’d never play it out much and since I have a fretless neck for my Gecko 5 I figure that if I really need one again I can change necks out.
I wasn’t really sure that I’d keep the Roscoe 6 but when it arrived and I played it, I was reminded how special Keith’s 6 strings are. Totally love playing it! No need for a high C at church but it’ll be great at jams and recording.

Hey Chuck,

I just realized that I'm the one who purchased this bass from you. When I saw it, it looked familiar but I had to go check my pm's to verify. Sold to me in 2018. I just found the pictures from when I owned it. It had a beautiful 12th fret inlay!

That Wenge fingerboard and ash body is a great combination and what I have on my Century 5. Something about the tone is just right for me. Oh well. I cannot complain. My SKB 6 is a killer bass with very interesting tone with the ebony FB and the heavy mahogany body. That bubinga top was so beautiful and I loved the J pickups close to the bridge.

Ive played the LG3000 in the Fargo store. It's a great bass. I can do a lot on a 4 string, and the D-tuner on this would help with a few more. I debated it for a while, but my Century 5 is such a fantastic bass, it's hard to justify another. I really like that Pale Moon Ebony 5 with the "MM" pickup. Again, I can't justify it, but even my wife thinks the top is beautiful and very unique, which I like as well.

That's really what I think of when I think Roscoe. When I started looking that's what I saw quite often. The spalted board for sure. I ended up with Centuries and a P, but I still associate Roscoe with an LG body, spalted board, matching headstock. Maybe someday. I'm pretty happy with what I have.
totally, I have one just like it but with a Cocobolo board. To me it's the Roscoe I was first saw in BP Magazine in the 90's. I had never seen a board like that. The OG Roscoe. I like all the body shapes but the LG was the first I noticed.

Hummmm. ….

Blackened redwood

Well, we can't really see the grain of the wood (it is a picture of a gloss finished top). I don't see the variation I'd expect from a burl. To my eye, the grain of the top wood isn't prominent enough for redwood. Nothing jumps out at me to make me suspect any kind of tint or artificial color enhancement. Doesn't "look" like american or english walnut.

An up close and personal look might change my guess but it's likely not a wood that KR "normally" uses for tops. I'd guess maybe something like a peruvian walnut. It looks like a thin top so using a not so typical acoustic wood shouldn't be detrimental.

There ya go Joe. You wanted my guess, and that's a real WAG.
