Roscoe Club

In my roscoe now I have oem Bart with p/sc/s switch, the new Bart agdb buffer and the Demeter! Pretty sweet!
Hey Mo, I am curious what you feel the Bart AGDB is adding to the equation - is this so you can have both pickups buffered pre-blend for more even mixing?

:hyper:I just hardwired my Roscoe Barts in the 'outer coil' single coil configuration...the tone in my head has arrived! This is fantastic. Might consider the p/sc/s switches down the road, but it sounds so good in this configuration, I may never want to use the switches!:hyper:
Since it is a quad coil did you wire the two coils you are using in series or parallel? I assume series, as would be the typical application even if using a series/parallel/single switch with them (single actually being a hum cancelling split like you are using it).

I would assume series also, Jeff. That jumper between in-line 'half coils' is internal. I just had the 4 conductors to roll with, leaving a single quad coil like this able to do 'neck' (or 'north') split coil, 'bridge' (or 'south') split coil, parallel dual split coil or series dual split coil. The Bartolinis quads with 6 conductors have the jumper between half coils in series (ground of one side to hot of the other), however, the jumper is outside of the epoxy, so one could go all crazy and rewire it as a parallel split coil (which I've heard sounds uneven and a bit nasty).

Mmmmm...wiring.

This wiring stuff just got me thinking...I should design an active electronic switch for those 6-conductor Barts. With 8 exposed wiring points, a bass with 2 of those pickups could potentially have 48 unique different tone settings, only counting each combination at 50/50 blend and soloing each pickup (6 x 6) + 6 + 6. You could wire them up to be a parallel DC at the neck and a reverse P at the bridge...heh heh, I should go practice.

Yes.
I use the buffer for two (three) main reasons
the resonance moves up a little since there's less load (instead of the 250k blend)
I can "balance" each pup level independently and bump up a little the gain (bart pups are low output) before the Demeter active blend (which hasn't a master gain like Bart NTMB's, Nordstrand's, etc)

….. even if using a series/parallel/single switch with them (single actually being a hum cancelling split like you are using it).
The Bart quad coils are NOT humcan when in "single coil" (aside the Musicman style and some custom made one).
The split is intended to compensate for a wide/r string spacing (Bill explained me the whole story - manufacturing issues etc -, but I can't remember al the details)

That's a nice one Clint. It has a crazy one piece spalted maple body. How is ole Adam? I miss him. I haven't talked to the original "Roscoe Poacher" in quite a while.

I had lunch with Adam last week, he is doing well. He has recently started a new job so it will take him just a little while to build his "Poach Reserve" back to 2011 levels. Once this happens I recommend you hide your Roscoe's.

Wow, that's interesting. I know I've got quiet AC current at home, but my quad Barts are nice and quiet when soloed or together, compared to a bass I have with true single coils soloed. Maybe the hum canceling I'm experiencing is just a side effect of having a 'dummy coil' in the shell that isn't wired to anything. Bestbassgear.com has the quads listed as hum canceling currently.

Active R, I can't speak to the P4 bar magnet being any shorter due to 2 screws on a side (hasn't it been that way for a long time now?), but Bartolini has the max overall spacing spec published at 90mm or 95mm for P4s depending on the model.

The Quad coil P/U is still a humbucker (if it's wired in that manner). It just has 4 coils (see illustration: Invalid Link Removed ).

I just assumed 2 screws would be in the way of the magnets, and the reason the Roscoe Bart's had 1 screw was to allow the magnets to be longer.
Yeah, you're right, I first noticed the 2 screw Bart's in late 2010, but I thought they were CB's. Since then there's been a lot of variety of pickups, but the single screw Roscoe Bart's still popped up occasionally on their facebook page. Here's the last one from Jan. 14, 2014.

Thanks for the spacing specs. The strings are spaced at 90 and 95mm over the pickups on my 7's, and that's just within the screws. The Roscoe Bart's are so powerful, I guess it doesn't matter. Thanks again.
