Roscoe Club

Some good options for sure. I became interested in JB Jazz after watching YouTube vids, and I'm leaning that way. Thanks for the comments. Damns I want me a Roscoe fretless.

I'm a total novice at this because I'm the second owner of my Roscoe, so forgive the dumb question. If I want to spec a new one, do I do that directly with Gard or through a retailer like Rocket Music?
Call Greg at Rocket Music.

Some folks go through Gard and others through the dealer. Of course both Gard and Greg really know Roscoe's so I'd pull from both of their knowledge and experiences (about Roscoe's). If you know the things that are critical to you (sound, ergonomics and appearance wise) they can certainly steer you in the right direction.
Take what us Roscoeheads say with a grain of salt though. We're all opinionated and look for slightly different things in a Roscoe, which is why Roscoe makes different models and offer so many different options. Not a bad thing.

I'm more of a LG or SKB kind of guy. I've owned a few Roscoe Century models but I've never warmed up to the Century body style. Just different strokes for different folks. :)

One things for sure though, (IMO) the body style doesn't really affect the sound of the Roscoe fretless. IMO the Diamondwood finger board is the critical option for getting the magical sound out of a Roscoe fretless). The pickup choices and locations simply fine tune the bass to the sound in your head.
Always remember: bridge p/u soloed and mid boost = Mwahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :bassist:

Good luck!

The century is great. Some people say it's a bit big, I think it's just right. Then again, we're all different shapes and sizes, but I couldn't see me playing the others as easily.

Yeah I love the Century body, but I have never played an LG or SKB. I like the long upper horn of the Century that gives it perfect balance. I'm a big dude though, Mama fed me well :)

But to me, a Jazz/Precision body is extremely large and bloated. I picked up a Jazz bass for the first time in 20 years and it felt like I was playing a surfboard!

We don't offer direct-to-customer sales, so you would need to contact a retailer. I'm always happy to answer questions, however, so feel free to PM, e-mail, Facebook me (Gard Lewis), or call the shop (336-274-8810) anytime!

Not to confuse you any further but the JJ jazz Barts located in the standard soap bar locations sound pretty good too. Same bridge sound as the JB setup but a little smoother when you blend in the neck p/u.

I imagine a little less boomy as well. I am still thinking of removing my J pickups and installing a Bart Quad in the emg40 size.

lol

Sorry for the confusion. I love the Bart for fretless but I love the Demeter for fretted. I hope that clears it up.

I really agree with Joe on this topic. The Demeter with either Roscoe Barts/Classic Barts/Aggie DBs sound amazing on fretted. The Bart sounds amazing on fretless. Gard's fretless with the JB pickups pushed rearward is really sweet and probably my favorite fretless Roscoe.

OK, so I called the shop at 1:30 AM this morning (just to see if you really meant that we could call the shop anytime) and you weren't there! What's up with that? :D

Come to think of I guess that you didn't say that you'd be there. You just said that we could call the shop anytime ........... ;)

I really had some important things to ask you too. Topics like the availability of various shades of black hardware, laminated head stocks on Standard models, fretted Diamondwood finger boards, replaceable modular preamps, sliding pickups .. :roflmao:

I didn't say you'd get an answer, just that you can call anytime. You called at the perfect time for those questions by the way - right when I wasn't there to listen to them. :spit:
