yeah. and i'd like to keep at least one 5 in my collection, and Roscoe makes a damn good 5. when i had mine set up with 40-125s, that bass was lightning fast and just effortless to play.

But I also think getting a Roscoe with frets is like getting a Harley with snow chains...
So I'm glad there are choices ...

A fretless Roscoe is like a Ferrari.
A fretted Roscoe is like a Porsche.
Both are pretty awesome....but different.
I hate that I love Roscoe basses. I have my fretted 5 soap bar active Bartolini modern sound covered.
I'd like to add a fretless 5 JB Bart to the stable.
I'd also like one of the Aguilar equipped active/passive P/J fretted basses. It would be my "P" bass but it would probably have to have 5 strings as I just can't seem to get a Roscoe without a B string - even for my "P" needs.

A Roscoe without a B string is not a Harley, more like a Ducati! Sleek and fast! I love my fours and have no desire for a B string!

I like 4's, 5's and 6's!
That being said, nobody makes a better sounding low "B" than Roscoe and nobody makes a better playing 6'er than Roscoe!

This is true. I can't see myself ever buying a 5 string other than a Roscoe. I could possibly buy a 4 string from someone else. Even that is a tough call. Maybe if there were more used Roscoe 4's out there.
Gotta agree on the low b.
When I had a 35 inch roscoe the low b was VERY playable and precise. I had never experienced anything like it.
Now I've got my short scale roscoe and the low b is great in a different way. It's not as precise but it's huge and authoritative. Its by the far the most in your face low b string I've used. In a band mix it really jumps out. Still very playable but not as precise or piano like as a 35 inch.
I cant say the same about the foderas, ken smiths, f-basses, sadowskys, elricks, fenders, or alembics I've played. All good instruments in their own way but the low b's I've played haven't come close.
