Roscoe Club

I picked this LG up from a local TBer, I pulled the preamp and dropped it off at Rowyco Kustoms in Durham, NC for a color change. This is one of the 10 Roscoe made for The Perfect Bass back in the day, maybe Gard can chime in with the Year it was built and what colors were offered. These came in 5 different colors (2 in each color) and with a black headstock. The body and headstock will be done in the same solid color.

I already have an SKB with Roscoe Barts and Bart preamp so I am thinking of going with a different preamp, possibly an AGC Filter, has anyone tried one of these preamps?

2 - Orange
2 - Cobalt Blue (soon just one ;) )
2 - Natural
2 - Tobacco Sunburst
1 - Transparent Black
1 - Cherry Sunburst

Cool basses, kind of halfway between a Standard and a Custom. Really looking forward to seeing what Stike does with this one.

Good find Clint. Don't those have the Roscoe Bart P/U's? The reason I ask is that I really liked the Pope preamp with the Bart CB's. It was like a nice blend of every other preamp (Demeter, Bart, Aggie, Audere) that I've had in a Roscoe (in a single package) and the passive mode and passive tone control was awesome. I'm sure that it would sound good with the Roscoe Barts too but you wouldn't be able to take advantage of the passive mode option. Of course if it has the Roscoe Barts you can take advantage of the SC option.

What finish are you going with? While it probably won't affect the tone it'll certainly affect whether you like looking at the bass!

I just bought a set of Aguilar DCB D4 pickups, I want the LG to sound different than my SKB which has the Roscoe Barts and Bart preamp. I love the tone of my SKB but don't want both basses to sound the same. I had a Pope pre when they first came out inside my Century JJ. I never really fell in love with the JJ pickup/Ash body. I tried, Bartolini, Aguilar OB3, Demeter, U-Retro and Pope Preamps in that bass along with Aguilar, Nordstrand, Fralin, Bartolini and Delano pickups and never could get a tone I really liked. When I sold the bass it had the Delano and Aguilar OBP3 setup which sounded the best with the Nords coming in second. I realized it was the Roscoe tone that drew me to Roscoe (and the neck) so went back to my roots with the SKB and am very happy. The LG is a tribute to my mother who passed in 2013, I need to find someone who can inlay the name Lily at the 12th fret in black. Betty Lily Godbehear was my mothers birth name and when I wasn't singing Black Betty to her, I was calling her Lily.

As a hint to the color, it will not be white or black. The new finish shouldn't affect tone, it will have a bass coat of color and a UV cured topcoat like the gloss finish on my SKB.

I am also looking for someone to do an inlay on my SKB 3005, which I bought as a tribute in advance of the loss of my Yorkies, I lost my little guy on Monday, it's been 12 years since I've practiced at home without his watchful presence.

First, very sorry for your loss, I know that pain. One never forgets a good dog or cat, losing one is like losing a child or a sibling.

I'd suggest Larry Robinson for the inlay, he wrote the book - LITERALLY - on doing fingerboard inlays. Here's a link to his website, which will have his contact info:

Robinson Custom Inlays

I think you will find Larry to be very easy to work with, and his work is excellent, of course.

Just got back from Greensboro. A good hang as always! Keith gave my CS 5 a slight tweak and it's playing like a million bucks. I also took a look through the woodpile, probably north of 100 pieces and narrowed it down to these three, one of which will go on an ash body with a single MM pickup and a fretless black diamondwood board. SPOILER ALERT: I already picked the winner. But curious to see what you guys would choose. L to R: Prima vera, Mango, Koa.
