Roscoe Club

Walnut basses , I have 4. 2 Roscoes and 2 MTDs. The one in the photos is the lightest but none are uncomfortable!Focus but not warm. But not harsh either! I'm not good at describing tone. My maple top walnut body with Aguilar DCBs and OPB 3 pre is a little more aggressive but it's really funky. Walnut works if you want some edge. And it's clear as a bell!
Thanks that's helpful. I'd think the way that sits in the mix would be especially good for finger style.

OK, so, THIS happened this past weekend:

Invalid Link Removed

That would be a Plek Pro, Joe Glaser, Keith Roscoe, and yours truly in the midst of setting up that there Plek gizmo.

Guess what: all that hype you have heard and read about Plek? It's real. Really real. Really, really, REALLY real. Stupid good. Off the hook.

Do you want it? Yup. You do.

Signed,
Your friendly neighborhood TB Plek Tek (I got trained on it too, it was FUN :hyper: )

Yeah baby

I had some down time this morning and surfed around the net a bit and ended up going to the You Tube videos of some of the operations at the Roscoe shop. I came across the 2 where Tony installed the 12th fret inlay. Holy Cow!:jawdrop:

Not sure how I never watched those 2 but I always assumed that task was done via a CNC operation (should have known better). That's one of the things that you just look at a Roscoe and say "nice" but never really consider what it took to get it installed. Such meticulous detail and extremely little room for error! I'll never look at my 12th fret inlay again without thinking about what it took to get it there so perfectly!:)

If you've never watch the videos before you'll enjoy them. You'll definitely never look at your 12th fret inlay the same again!

I only have one Roscoe with an inlay but it is very nice.
N.B. he's working on a finished neck, but for the fretwork.
Don't know the recovery plan for inlay screwup but I'd expect it's - new neck !

I have heard it takes Fodera as long to inlay their butterfly as it does for Fender to make a complete P-Bass.

Just packed up 13 strings of Roscoe happiness and off to the BassBootCamp !
See y'all Monday !

The workmanship that goes into those inlays is amazing. I wanted something a little different, and guys came through.

Very brief post-BassBootCamp trip report because I'm pretty wiped out after 3 days of intense classroom, workshop, and Master Class, and NightOwl sessions running from about 8 am to midnight...

Everybody loved the Roscoes...

In my track ("Advanced Intermediate") there were 3 owners represented with 4 total (I brought 2...)

In my Tapping class, the instructor wanted to give me grief about having my fingers on the wrong strings and so asked me 'how do you have that tuned?' When I told him 'B through F' he said "ohmigod - that's a 7-string bass!" (I thought the 4+3 headstock was a pretty big clue...) Well, yeah, I had to bring a fretted bass to a tapping class, didn't I? That's the one I've got...

I didn't see any Roscoes from any of the other tracks... So - One fretted 5 LG, one fretless 5, one fretless 6 SKB, one fretted 7 SKB.

I was told the fretless sounded great at the Groove Exam 'graduation ceremony' portion, but everyone is pretty gracious all weekend long. I thought it sounded good too but I haven't reviewed the recording yet.

Whether or not I actually played them well, Roscoe remains the most playable bass I've encountered and if I'm going to bring one to anything (as I have numerous times) it's going to be the fretless 6. I invited a bunch of people to play them both and they were very well received.

Hmm.. what's "zero" on yours? On mine, noon is all the way off (or all the way on.) With both of my Roscoes, the first time I took them to practice with the band, I was having problems being heard before realizing the preamp gain was barely cracked open.

Dave, I think he means find the 1/2 way setting. Turn it all the way CCW (note where it stops) and then turn it all the way CW (and note where it stops). Turn the pot to the center point between the 2 extremes. I usually go just a bit under 1/2 to minimize over-driving the pre (the Bart can be quite hot EQ wise).

Yeah, that's where I have mine, like a clock that reads five till five.

There is no "right" way to set that gain control on our Bart 3-band preamp - just the "right way for your situation". We send it out where Dave describes, not quite to "12 o'clock", but that's just a "suggested" level, you can certainly adjust it up or down to fit your needs - keeping in mind that all the way "off" is literally OFF, and all the way "up" is going to overdrive the input of almost any preamp you plug into. :)
