Roscoe Club

So Gard, it is really true that Diamondwood is no longer available (for fretless basses)?

Are you guys going to offer phenol wood?

We still have a good bit of the black diamondwood, but have now used the last of the bird's eye maple version. Once the stuff we have is gone, there is no way we know of YET to replace it (I am spending a bit of time when possible trying to find a suitable replacement), as the factory that made it has burned to the ground and their parent company chose to not rebuild it. My understanding is that "phenowood" and "dymondwood" (which is what "diamondwood" is) were the same product with a different name, both made in the same factory.

Hi all! I have a Roscoe Century Standard 4 fretless that I am thinking of selling or trading if anyone is looking. I've been a lurker here for a while. Happy to hear that Gene Baker, one of our local guitar builders here in San Luis Obispo County in California is now on the Roscoe team!

I'm really looking forward to it. It will be my first fretless.:hyper:
Now I need to free up some wall hanging space for it. I think I'll put my two MTD and maybe my EBMM in the classifieds..

...but you'd die with a smile on your face. :D

I may run this by the "minister of finance" in a more serious way tomorrow. I have no real NEED for my old 6 but here it is again when I'm not looking, there's the history/experiences part attached to this bass, and as I get older I put more value on those types of things.

I'll certainly will be seeking out you old fretless players to help this youngster out!!

You're just up the road (Atlanta) from where JohnnyR, BassWR, Leurastus and I live. We typically have a Bass GTG every year here in Warner Robins. We'll announce the date for this year's GTG soon. Maybe you can bring the new Roscoe fretless and have some good bassists fellowship, food (GA Bob BBQ) and check out some nice bass gear. You can probably hitch a ride with a few of the other Atlanta area TB'ers that come.
Plus, I'd love to see my former Koa LG-3005 that you picked up from Jon!

That would be great! And the Koa LG-3005 is in good company with my LG-3006! I'm needing to free up a hanger for my new fretless, so anyone looking for a really nice below high-end bass (MTD, Lakland, EBMM Ray) send them my way!

I'm just a kid of 63 but I'll be glad to help where I can...

Thanks!! But I didn't mean 'old' fretless players to mean 'old-timers' fretless players, nor to be insulting in anyway to any level of bass playing.
I am 'new' to the fretless bass arena and my solicitation (though poor word choice) for advice (technique/expectations) was from not new, thus 'old', fretless players.
I would suspect that I am certainly one of the old/old-timers in TB!! I'm proud to say I am older than you, but very much a kid at heart, especially when it comes to these beautiful bass instruments!!

Lighten up - no offense taken ;-)
I started playing bass at 59 after many years of playing other instruments (the "G-word." mostly...)
Quickly realized fretless was going to be 'my' instrument and it's virtually all I play. (I do have a fretted Roscoe...)
So my journey down the fretless path, while far from complete, is still relatively fresh in my mind.
You got a question, just ask.
There's also a 'Fretless Players' club, worth checking out. Post a picture and ask for a number if you want...

Thanks again! When it arrives (next week) I'll post a pic and join that club for sure.
