I've been looking at a lot of Roscoe basses and I really dig the smallish SKB body over the Century, so one of the reasons for going with 34 inch scale is the fact that the upper horn is shorter on the SKB. The longer horn on the Century body probably puts it just in the right place on a 35 inch scale though. I am basing my decision on 34 inch around the fact that I tried a Lakland 35 inch a few years ago and it wasn't for me. I know that 34 vs 35 is a huge debate but I think I'll be good with a 34 in this case. Comments or thoughts welcomed of course.

Based on your profile (all 34" scale basses listed) I'd stay with the 34" Scale Roscoe. I've played a couple (even played a 32" scale) and the B string still feels and sounds great on the 34". The 32" scale actually sounded really good too IMO.
And if one of your 34" scale basses is a fretless you'd definitely be better off staying with the 34" scale.

The last time I ordered from Demeter was just a little over a year ago when I bought 3 of the Roscoe Units, 2 with switches and 1 just 4 knob. James hooked me up last time for $145 each.

I pulled the trigger on the cherry burst LG 3005 from moorebass - shipped today - will receive it Wednesday in So Cal - I hate the wait! It was somewhat of an impulse buy and it IS 35" scale! There's no other way to find out if I dig or not because there are no dealers in So Cal and Bass San Diego has zero stock. I figure this is a good starting point for my adventure into Roscoe World. I've been playing Tobias basses since the late 80s when I got my first Basic 5 - then moved on to the Killer B5 - got a second KB5 and haven't found anything I dig more then those basses since then! I did consider a MTD, but with only the one body style and I already have two older Tobias basses, I wanted to check out something else. I've been aware of Roscoe for many years now - and I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Haslip - not sure why it took so long for me to consider a Roscoe for myself. There's really no other bass on the market with the smaller body or an LG or SKB AFAIK. And like Jimmy, I like a smaller bodied instrument. He talks about that on the youtube video - I think he has a LG5 body on his 6, so it's even smaller than it would have been. Funny quick story - and I'm NOT a name dropper at all, but have to mention this - I did a track on my buddy's CD recently and Jimmy was doing a track on that record too, and was finishing up his part as I arrived, so got to hang with him for an hour or so after he was done - so cool and a great cat. I've been a Yellowjackets fan since day one, so it was a treat. I had met him at several Jackets gigs in the past, but you know the deal - a quick hi and bye. Anyway, TBD, TBA and all that - will report back after I get the bass next week!

First gig with the headless! Boy oh boy is this thing a gas. I did catch myself checking out the bass a couple of times and messed up my part.. drool

Well, I just couldn't leave it alone. My Roscoe Classic Custom came with Aguilar 4J-HC Pickups. I have never been a fan of the Aguilar JJ pickups but I thought I would give it a go. I just couldn't take the compressed tone of the Aggies anymore so a change had to be made. My two favorite pickups for J bass have been the Delano JC4 HE Series and the Nordstrand 4 String SV and when I checked BBG both were about 6-10 weeks out. I had heard the recording @RocketMusic did with the Honey Badger P bass pickup, I really liked the punch and clarity of the pickup so I started thinking I would give HB a try. What kind of sealed the deal for me, Facebook friend Jerry (Red Debil) Burdick installed a set of Honey Badger J bass pickup in his bass so I hit him up for his opinion. After talking to Jerry and hearing a recording of the pickups on YouTube I ordered a set of the Honey Badger Split Coil JJ Vintage pickups. The HB pickups have a nice wide range, they actually sound like single coil pickups without the noise (the feature I really liked about the Nordstrand's). These are definitely hotter pickups so I increased the gap between pickup and strings to about 3/16". These pickups have some serious punch when slapped and really nice finger tone which brought an instant smile to my face.

My Classic Roscoe Custom has an East J-Tone preamp with a true passive tone circuit, these pickups sound awesome in passive mode and when I go active, bump the bass between 1-2 o'clock and treble set flat it produces a nice modern bass tone. These pickups have passed the in home Crash test, I will see how they pass the live test this weekend. Price is $199 for the set.
