The fretted is.
I find I need to give the fretless a bit of seasonal tweak now and then because there's a fairly narrow range that gives me the mwah I like.
I just did humid summer; I'll probably have to take it out again in the fall. Maybe 1/6 turn...

One thing I noticed is that the neck is stable as heck. I'm a new Roscoe owner, so I did not know this. I'm used to having to adjust the truss rod when changing strings 0r when the weather changes! I did loosen the rod a bit because the neck had zero relief and I like a little bit so I can dig in and not have buzzing issues.

For you long-time Roscoe players: Are these necks pretty much "set it and forget it?"

Pretty much. I bought both my Roscoe new, and they were new builds. Adjusted the necks a couple of times the first year or two, and just a little bit. Now they never seem to move even with extreme weather changes. I believe the build of the Roscoe neck is probably 90% of the Roscoe magic.

I think you are correct about the Roscoe neck / magic! And I never believed all the hype about 35" scale and the better low B - until now!

The magic isn't in the neck. The rest of the bass is amazing but there isn't a better feeling, playing or sounding 5 (or 6) string neck out there.

That said, my current playing doesn't really require a 6 or really a 5 any more. I'm playing my cheap G&L JB-2 a lot lately. There's something to be said about the fast little 4 string neck. And I find I only really NEED a low Eb or D once or twice a gig and can easily tap my TU-2 and be set. DADG isnt that hard to get used to for a song or two.

I'd like to try a classic 4 but can't really afford to without selling something. Not sure what to do. Gonna try the G&L atvtbe nextbrehearsal and see how it goes. I did do a demo recording with it and it sounded pretty good. Can only imagine how a Roscoe "jazz" or "P/J" would sound.

This is good to know. Coincidentally, I recently switched back to 45s after having spent about a year using 40s on the G - typically, 40/60/80/100/120, but my conclusion was that they are a tad light for me. Well, light for my "other" basses - pre-Gibson Tobias Killer B5, Music Man Sterling 5, MM Sabre Classic. Maybe it's a different story on the Roscoe. Then again, Roscoe stock strings are 45, 60, 85, 100, 125 - interesting mix of gauges - a hybrid light / medium of sorts. The D'Addario's that I happened to have in my parts box and put on the Roscoe are 45/65/80/100/130. My old favorites were LaBella Super Steps - 45/65/85/105/128 - but they're pricey at almost $40. I think I prefer the 85 A and 105 E.

OK - I'm looking for strings online now and found the DR Strings Nickel Medium Lo-Riders 5-String Bass Strings - Gauges 45-65-85-105-125; $30 online
Then there's always the Dunlop DBN45125 - 45/65/85/105/125 - $17 on Sweetwater - dang - nice price!
I'll get a set of each - this keeps the 45 on the G and 125 on the B like the stock set from Roscoe.

I know - TMI and I'm thinking out loud :rollno: (typing out loud?)

Man I sent my Roscoe in to have it Plek'd and it was there for the 1 day and now UPS has lost it. I was supposed to have it back by Last Thursday and they still don't know where it is. Gard said he watched the UPS guy scan it and watched it leave but now no one knows where it is. Can say how bummed I am right now. I was so excited to get it back and play it and now I don't know if I will ever see what that machine does to a bass.

Updates on my bass as they come in but nothing since June 30th which was still saying that a label was created but it has not been picked up yet. Now it says Exception/We are attempting to verify the package location. How does this happen?

So bummed out. Anyway I hope everyone in the States are having a great 4th of July!!!

Bummer! I've always had really good experiences with both UPS and FedEx. I certainly hope that it eventually shows up at your house.
I had my Roscoe Plek'd a couple months ago and it definitely made a really good playing bass an even better playing bass.

When I purchased my SKB 3006 the seller shipped it with USPS. Tracking information was all but useless. I thought sure it had gone missing but it was delivered after a month in the hands of the Postal Service.

I regret your delay and the associated worry but am hoping your Roscoe shows up in the system soon. It is almost certainly an oversight somewhere along the way.

A 6 string set (you can eliminate the first for a 5 string set, the first and sixth for a 4 string set) - .032 .045 .065 .085 .100 .125

We use D'Addario XL nickel wound strings, and they are the super longs (the regular long E and B string can sometimes come up a bit short on our basses)

Steve, I'm beatin' 'em up as I type. This is HIGHLY unusual in my experience - essentially in over 17 years of working with UPS daily, this has only happened one time, when a station manager was stealing things, and grabbed a bass on the way to a retailer. Otherwise, they're on the money. More info as it becomes available.

Yup, and my driver confirmed he scanned it and put it on the truck. My guess is that it got to the local sort facility and got set in the wrong place. They are working the issue according to all I've been told.

I have been in your shoes, not with a Roscoe but with inexpensive bass a couple years ago. The UPS sorting facility is huge with a lot of conveyors. It could be the label was torn and unreadable by the scanners at the sort facility. Depending on how badly the label could have been damaged, well the manual sort is really slow as it has to be researched. My label was damaged and the bass was sent to Seattle. Once they figured out where the bass ended up, they sent it overnight.
