Roscoe Club

Played my SKB at a demo recording session last week and it sounded great! I'll,post some links when it's mixed.

I also had a chance to try a couple of Classics this week when I stopped by Rocket Music during a trip to Blacksburg. I'm having serious GAS for a PJ with the Honey Badgers.

Beautiful bass, I really like the Alder body. I have a set of the DCB pickups in my LG and they sound pretty good. If I were buying the bass, the first thing I would do is rip out the OBP-3 preamp as I can't stand the tone of that preamp, just to harsh for me. I would probably throw a Demeter preamp in that bass.

The OBP-3 is my favorite preamp so it wouldn't go anywhere if I get it lol. I'm curious about Roscoe basses and have been for a while but really want to play some soon. May have to take a 3-4 hour drive to Rocket Music to test some.

I have two Century Signatures, one with Roscoe Barts/ OBP-3 and the other with Aguilar DC/ OBP-1. Two different voicings from the different pickups, which is what I wanted. I love both of them. I know CrashClint hates the Aguilar preamps, I like them. When set flat they don't affect the tone, in my opinion. I use/need only a little eq, if any, most of the time.

I'd like to weigh in on the classic P discussion.

I feel you are missing a big opportunity by not offering a 1.65" (or 1.625") option. A lot of younger guys have had their first experience with P's with this neck width. And that's what they know as a P. I love P's and I would love to have a high end one, but 1.75 is just too wide. Sadowksy, Lull etc are both offering only either 1.75 or 1.5.

So the only companies open to me are Fender and Nash...which are not exactly targeting the market that the high end builders are. i.e., they are either mass produced or parts basses relic'ed.

If you are carving your own necks, why not tap into that (arguably quite large) market??

Well, if anyone is following along, I decided to sell the 6 - again - for the last time. As much as I love the bass I just don't use it to its full potential. I am comforted knowing it's going to a god home. Same place my first fretless went actually so they wil be reunited.

Playing my 5 at church today and it just feels good. Feels good with the cover band as well.

Gonna hold off on the Classic purchase for a bit. We have a couple gigs over the next couple weekends so I'm gonna see how the Century 5 handles the gigs.

My wife reminds me that I have never kept a P bass so maybe I'll rethink my Classic to a JJ? We'll see. You know how it is when I am planning a build.

If I ever let Steve come to visit, he should feel right at home. Can't wait to get back into a 6er, and this truly is a 'God home' and a good home...I'm in my Sunday lull between Lutheran service performance and Catholic mass performance. It's totally all right that my Bears are getting smoked by the Bucs.

Blasphemy! Hold you tongue you man! :D

I remember one of my friends changing out the 50K pots on his OBP-3, I think he went with 100K pots. He was trying to make the preamp less sensitive and I honestly can't remember what the results were. I assuming he still has his Roscoe so I will give him a shout out to find out more.

Bummer! You need to get Keith to come and bring one of his new Roscoe JJ basses. No ones carrying them in Ga. and they'll be plenty of potential buyers at the GTG ...........

That stinks Joe, my Classic Custom JJ is absolutely killer and I know anyone who has played a J bass will love the Roscoe. Drop a East J-Tone in and a killer bass gets even more deadly. With Roscoe slated to make a P bass with a J neck, this is why I may sell my LG. A Roscoe P that plays like my JJ would be amazing!

I am actually excited about the 1.75" width at the nut, having played a Roscoe 5 for years. It also places the bass design-wise and price-wise in between the Fender AVRI and Custom Shop Time Machine Precisions, both of which have 1.75" widths at the nut.

Between the three, I would personally place my bet on the Roscoe for quality, playability, and most bang for your buck.

All visitors are more than welcome. Especially if they bring cool basses and/or amps!:)

Definitely will miss you Gard. We were really hoping that you could make it ......
