I'm just a guy... but, that 1.75" P width neck may have un-sold me on a Roscoe P. I had an AVRI 57 P, and I dug it, but that one's neck was very skinny front to back, so it made up for it.

Since the early 60's, they tend to not go much wider than 1.625", which I dig. I also dig a jazz width neck. Just saying... offering neck width options on the 4's may widen your customer pool.

OK, pretty much all that - the default/standard body wood will be poplar, options for alder or swamp ash. The default/standard pickup/electronics arrangement will be a single P with volume & tone controls, options for the same active/passive electronics, and for the same 2 pickup configurations as the J - i.e. JJ, PJ, JM, PM. The 4 string neck is a full-on "P" shape and dimensions, with the 1.75" nut, the 5 string will be the same 35" neck as the J - we saw no advantage to a different neck for the 5. All of the same finish options for color and distress level are identical.

Base pricing will be about $50-75 less for the single pickup passive version, still nailing that down while completing the two prototypes (4 and 5 string )

Thanks! When you say "full on P shape and dimensions" for the neck, will it be the more "wide and thin" variety, the "wide and more heft" variety, or something else?

I may have to put my LG3005 up for sale to get one of the new Classic P basses. Just in case anyone is looking for an LG, this one has a solid Ash body, Maple/Purpleheart/Maple neck, Maple fingerboard, Aggie DCB D4 pickups and a John East Uni-Pre preamp and it comes with the original Roscoe/Bart Pickups and Bartoline preamp on the side. The bass has been PLEK'd by Roscoe. Oh, it is painted Shell Pink with matching headstock.

On the P neck, the front to back depth will be "average" - not particularly skinny or "fat", and we're just about to start assembling the very first one so until it's together, it's difficult to be certain how it will feel.

Getting a J spec neck on a P should be an option soon, I doubt we will charge anything for it.

Hmmm...a light hearted text to my wife about Gard pushing my buttons has lead to an interesting twist. A suggestion of a color, mention of if you want maybe I can make some of the cost part of your Christmas gift, etc.

There may be a chance that I could be the owner of if not the first Roscoe Classic Custom 5P, maybe on of the first couple. We'll see what develops over the next couple days.

True, but I still haven't placed an order. She really thinks I should keep my 6 - even if it doesn't get played much. I'm torn. She may be upset if I sell it. I've sold it a few times, but I've bought it back when I've seen it available again, so I don't know what to think. I'm not sure I can afford a Classic without selling so we'll see what the weekend brings.

I was able to get a very acceptable "P" tone from my Century 5 at rehearsal last night. Bump the mids a touch, roll the treble off about 1/2 and pan to the neck pup. It rocked pretty hard.

We do. Me especially. I've stuck with the same girl for 13+ years so I know I have it in me.

I do think a more "basic" looking and sounding bass would be a great fit for the new cover band, but they aren't inexpensive.

I would love to get my hands on that sixer of yours... I admired that in the classified section while it was listed. The quilt is just beautiful.

Alright Roscoe enthusiast I have my eye on a used Roscoe Century Custom and wanted to hear thoughts from those who have played the Aguilar DC pickups paired with Aguilar OBP-3 pre. Is this combination good for these basses. Is this a good price for a used roscoe in this shape.

Thanks. It's a pretty special bass. The "veneer" top is super thick, almost like what they use on a Custom. The Wenge board is amazing. Sounds fantastic and plays so easy for a 6.

My century 6 j is going nowhere. It cops a very good P tone in a mix. If you've bought it 3 times, you'll eventually want it back.

I know. I'm torn. When I think I'm ready to sell (and take my chances with my wife) everyone says what a great bass is it, and I play it and think, yeah, it is a great bass.
