Roscoe Club

Communicated with Gard some over the last few days. Sounds like he's doing really good. I know we Roscoeheads really miss him (on the Roscoe thread and @ Roscoe) but it sounds like the move was a good thing for him.
He's still more than willing to talk Roscoe's and as usual was very helpful. :)

I also talked to Keith a few times lately and as previously stated in a few other posts, things are still rocking and rolling at Roscoe. They sound busier than ever (sending a few things to NAMM for display with various vendors).

Hi guys, I think the time has come for me to move on from 6-string bass (again). I bought SteveC's wonderful Century Standard Plus 6 from him last year. Although I enjoy the tone and feel (and beauty and wood choices), I don't have the time to dedicate to ramping up my 6-string proficiency to how well I can play 5s and 4s. I just have to be honest with myself and the season of life that I'm in, and now is not the time to get back into a six or seven stringer.

I figured I'd make the announcement here before the full official listing later this weekend. I also figure I'll be looking for a 5 string Century SP or Custom fretted to replace it (or the right SKB), in case any Roscoe owners were looking for a 6-string or to trade.

Such a great bass. In hindsight I wish I would have made it a 5 instead of a 6 but that's life. At the time I was going to be a 6 string guy. So much for that.

Seriously, this is as fine a Standard Plus as yo will see. The top "laminate" is ridiculously thick. It's almost as thick as a custom. The grain on the fingerboard is killer. My first Roscoe order. If you want a 6 string jazz bass, this is it.

I did hear from Keith on putting series/parallel/single switches on my bass. He didn't say anything about needing to change pups and/or preamp. I sent him an email back to double check that my stock pickups can be made to do this.

$65 to ship there
$150 for the Plek
$75 for the switches
$65 for return shipping
$355 seems reasonable to get a 'single coil" option for my bass and keep my Roscoe neck.

Welcome to the club! I think a few of us Roscoe 6ers wished we had more time to work on the 6. I aminthe same boat.

You may want to open your control cavity to check how many pickup wires are in your harness. 2 wires and ground or 4 wires and ground. If you only have 2 wires and a ground per pickup then you can't do series/parallel. If you have 4-6 wires then you can.

The PLEK did wonders for an already awesome playing bass, you can't go wrong getting it done.

I'll take a look tonight if I have time.
Bass plays great but thats what everyone says. I do have a little "fret sprout" in the winter I'd like to get taken care of as well.

Steve-

If you go into my recent build thread and look at post #142, you'll see a few cavity shots that show what the Bart 4 wire leads looks like.

Assuming your bass indeed has the 4-wire dual coil pickups...

I'd suggest saving on the shipping and factory time to N.C., and have the guys at Ted Vig's shop in St. Paul do the work. I recognize coming down here is still a schlep for you, but they could easily do it.

Now that I think about it, Ted probably installed five or six of those exact same preamp/coil switching setups for me over the years (and I mean, literally identical to what you're going after).

Here are the exact switches you'd need - you can order them at BestBassGear or on Amazon for about $13 each.

If you ordered the switches ahead of time, and brought them with you when you drop off the bass, it would just be labor. Ted's crew could probably knock it out in a couple hours of bench time.

I think I'll do the same for my recently acquired SKB. It's an '08 and the action is a little too high. I briefly had a Century Custom 5 that had coil switching and loved it.

I can also vouch for Ted Vigs work. Very pleased with the work that he did on my LG3005.

Ted is certainly an option. I am tempted to get it Pled'ed though. Everyone says it makes such a difference.
I've had 3 Custom Roscoe basses and 2 was plek'd and the 2011 Myrtle one wasn't. The best setup and action of all 3 was the Myrtle one. That isn't bashing the 2 that was because the setup was amazing on them also but I couldn't tell a bit of difference in the 3 basses and their ability to setup really low. That is probably a testament to Keith and how good work he does on building and the original fretwork he does. Now I didn't play the other 2 basses before they was plek'd so I'm not sure how big a difference the plek made over their before status lol.

Beautiful bass!:) I love the maple board with the light myrtle top.
That's probably the most blonde looking myrtle top that I've ever seen. Myrtle usually has more of a caramel (light brown) or olive look to it.
And I'm sure that the wenge/maple/wenge wedge neck gives the bass some nice growl too.

So I had some time this morning and finally swapped out the Nord NJ5F's in my Century STD back to the original Bart Low-Noise Jazz P/Us.
Before I did it though, I recorded the main bass part to one of my sound tracks so I could A/B the 2.
I kept the controls on the bass (and in my recording program) the same. I could certainly detect slight differences in the sound.
See if you can guess which one is the Bart's and which one is the Nord's.
