Just a pair of pretty sweet basses.

So here’s the control cavity.doesnt look like 4 conductor to me.

Steve- hard to say for sure going by that photo. The Barts with 4 wires may be wired permanently as “Series” by soldering some of the leads together.

What you MIGHT be looking at is indeed four wires- with two of them soldered and jacketed under the heat shrink.

STD’s come with CB’s. The bass would have to have been special ordered with Roscoe Bart’s to have them.

So Keith got back to me today via email to clarify that if I have Bartolini pickups (he didn't specify a model) that they can do the switching. They can't with Aguilar or on a 6 string with either Bartolini or Aguilar.

So, if that's the case, I may send it off and get the toggles installed and have it Plek'ed. Have to see about the time frame as this is my only bass and I'd have to borrow one from someone in town to get buy as I play almost weekly

NICE!

Yeah, I think I'm going to go for it. I think having those options would be great. It's a great bass already, but to put it in the "Signature" bass realm (minus all the fancy finish work) would be awesome. My only real GAS these days is for a jazz 5 so...
I need to find a box (don't think I have one at home any more) and a bass to use for a couple gigs (I have a friend that has a Yamaha Nathan East 5 and a Warwick Corvette 5 - an old bass of mine that I sold him actually) so I think I can find something usable while mine is away.

I'm surprised (that he can do a SC option with the CB's). I knew that he could do the series/parallel with the CB's but all of my Roscoe's with the CB's only had 2 wires w/shield. Maybe they changed to 4 wire w/shield or maybe they added access to all 4 coil connections on the back of the pickup (like the Ibanez Bart's).
Either way, good deal! Go for it Steve!! :bassist:

I’ll call before I do it. - just to be sure. But I played it again today and damn, it’s nice as is. I may be better off with a “backup 5” just in case. We’ll see. It takes me months to make a decision so....

Quick poll: Is it sacrilege to put flatwounds on a modern-sounding bass?

Background: I have an LG3000 with some 3-ish month old Dunlop Superbrights, and I'm thinking about changing out the strings. The problem is that I'm lazy and don't want to drive to the music store, and I'm impatient and don't want to wait to order off the internet. I've got a bass I'm not using much at the moment strung with TI flats, and I'm thinking about performing a transplant to the Roscoe.

However, there's a part of me that says that flats cut out frequencies, and while it can give you a nice vintage vibe, it might limit what I can get out of a custom bass with high-end pickups and preamp.

What do you guys think? Does anyone here use flats on their Roscoe?

I've never tried flats, buy others here have and had positive results. Give it a try, can't hurt anything. There are a lot of different flavors of flats, from very dark to very bright. Not sure where the Ti's are tone wise.

I like the sound of the TI Flats. You get a really cool R&B tone out of them. I've installed them on my Roscoe fretless several times to get more of an upright tone. For a flatwound string they actually have a great deal of nice smooth highs (IMO). You certainly won't get a great slap tone out of them but that's not what they're designed to do.
Put 'em on the bass. It'll inspire you to play the instrument a bit different.

.......... and while you're playing the TI Flats on the Roscoe, go ahead and order some RW strings of your choice off the internet. That way you'll have a new set to put on when you tire of the flatwound sound.:)

I have D'Addario tapes on my fretted SKB (for the P-Bass vibe) and Half-Rounds on the fretless.
They're a different sound to be sure.
I'd like something brighter on the fretted and rounds on the fretless, but I'm working out a compromise with the blues band BL/MD - he hates mwah and I hate fretted basses... It's an uneasy truce at the moment but it fits a need...
Try 'em. If you don't like 'em after a reasonable period of exploration - they come off as easy as they went on.

2 wires...
Not sure what I'll do now. It could get expensive. New pups, switches, Plek, shipping...

Tools and Toys: Ros

I will take a look tonight to see if I have an old pair of Roscoe Barts, if I do, I will donate the pickups to your cause if you like. It is possible the pickup tops could have some wear marks.

I keep flats on a
Precision because people ask for that sound.
Aside from that, no thanks.

3 Month old Dunlop Super Bright Nickle?
That’s barely broke in for me, but I have dry hands and strings last a long time for me.

Chef, you need to eat more fried chicken. It will take care of those dry hands. :D

That's nice of you. I'm going to actually call Keith before I decide to do anything just to be sure we're on the same page. Sometimes email isn't the best way to communicate.
