Roscoe Club

Have a few questions for the group here. I picked up a slightly used Century Plus PJ 5 this week and so far I'm really digging it except for one thing. It has the Aguilar PJ set up with Aguilar OBP-1 BP preamp but in both passive and active modes the P pick up sounds like there's a blanket over it it's very dull sounding. I also have a Fender P5 with a Nordstrand pickup and it's plenty bright for comparison.

I love everything else about the bass but sound wise it's really not usable right now. I don't want to return it maybe there's something I'm not seeing. Any suggestions are welcome

Hummm .....
I don't have any experience with the Aggie pickups but, I've heard these with the Aggie pre and they might do the trick:

@RichardCranium - what kind of pickups/bass woods are you used to? Aggies, in my experience, can be slightly dark and aggresive when you dig in, but there's no way I'd call their normal operation unusable. Unless you are used to extremely bright sounding single coils in a maple body bass, I'd guess that there is a chance that the wiring might be funky. I know you said both passive and active modes had the issue, but did you try changing the battery, moving all eq knobs to center detent, etc.?

I've had the experience of getting a brand new instrument and thinking there was something wrong with it due to the stark difference in tone between the new bass and the bass I was used to. It happened when I got a bass with dual humbuckers and I was using a brighter sounding single/humbucker combo with a Nordy pre previously.

Hey guys. Anyone know this bass:

Roscoe LG3005 Fretless Natural/Flame Honey Blonde

I am kind of GAS'ing for a fretless again. I know....

This seems like a good deal. An older Roscoe as it is an ebony board. I played an unlined fretless ebony Roscoe (SKB) at Rocket Music 5 years ago and it was an amazing bass. I prefer the Century body style because of the "perceived" reach to lower positions but this is cheaper than a new Standard Plus fretless.

Thoughts?

Steve,

Did you get it? Looks kike it has been sold

Yeah but mine has the key of the Gotoh and the gear of the the Hipshot. I thought I saw one somewhere but i am all over Hipshot's site and they do not have the one like I have on my bass.
Thanks dedpool1052.
The picture on hipshot's site shows the cloverleaf. To the right of the page it has a drop-down box marked "style", which the "Y-key" is available.

Here it is at Best Bass Gear
