Roscoe Club

So I had some time this morning and finally swapped out the Nord NJ5F's in my Century STD back to the original Bart Low-Noise Jazz P/Us.
Before I did it though, I recorded the main bass part to one of my sound tracks so I could A/B the 2.
I kept the controls on the bass (and in my recording program) the same. I could certainly detect slight differences in the sound.
See if you can guess which one is the Bart's and which one is the Nord's.

Damn...you had to post this while I'm traveling and didn't bring HQ headphones with me. :-)

You got it Mark.

Ver1 is the Nord's and Ver2 is the Barts's.

I tried to love the Nord's but I just prefer the sound of Bart's. Great finger style and pick sound IMO.
The Nord's have a better slap tone (more open) but I'm not doing that much these days.

Thanks for playing guys!:)

Ummm.. errrrr... uhhhhh... :D

Lol
Funny Dave.
As Shane stated, very subtle differences discernible in the recording. You can tell a little more during an A/B into an amp.
Got to say though, this is an awesome bass! If I was to build one now, I wouldn't change anything (other than maybe add a top because I'm so vane! :D).
Mahogany body, wenge finger board, 3-piece maple neck (or maple/PH/Maple works just fine too), Bart 3-band pre and Bart p/u's.
That's the recipe folks! :bassist::bassist::bassist:

There was very little difference tonally between the 2 recordings. Would be impossible to hear the difference in a live setting IMO.
That's interesting because I thought the same thing about the recordings. But having owned that bass and made the pickup swap, I found a significant difference between the hum-canceling Barts and the single-coil Nordstrands. With the Barts I was getting buried in my two-guitar rock band, but when I put the Nordstrands in, the bass cut right through.

I'm really glad you're digging it. I was after a Warwick vibe with that build. If I'd been able to go nuts $$-wise I would have done a Custom or Signature with an all-wenge neck.

That was going to be my guess, just because the second clip sounded more like my Bart-equipped SKB. Nice playing on both!

It's cool to see how many of us go for a "brand xxx" vibe with our Roscoe builds. I purposely had the MonkeyMan built to get Keith's take on MusicMan basses.

I'm a little late to this having just got home from work and able to pull out my Beyerdynamics. Both sound great but I give the edge to #2. They have that great Bartolini burpy compressed grunt. The Nordies sound a bit more open and leaning a little more toward single coil vibe. I said a little more so don't flame me please. :)
I think if I wanted more of that vibe I'd rather go further and just get humcancelling jazz pups.

Real nice playing!

Very cool, but not surprising. Not to take anything away from the classic electronics package of Roscoe Barts in the "Roscoe positions" and NTMB, but having the option to do P, J, MM, soapbars, and various combinations but retain all the Roscoe quality, looks, and playability is what keeps many of us from playing anything else. Any time you might think you want a different brand bass for a specific tone, chances are you could get it with a Roscoe if you're willing to order one as such.

So here’s the control cavity.doesnt look like 4 conductor to me.
