Roscoe Club

I’m home from school today so the inevitable looking and thinking will happen. I suppose if I were to go the new pickup road, I’d be better off doing a full on dual coil with 3 way toggles.

I do like that full on, two pickup jazz tone though.

Played the G&L SB-2 today again but with the volumes not maxed, maybe 85% and it sounded a lot better. I like the “raw” sound of the single coil pups and the “speed” of the tiny jazz neck, but the feel of the Roscoe - and the B string - lure me back. It’s a more refined or polite tone. As much as I talk about wanting a P bass, I’m pretty sure in the end I’m a 2 pickup guy - soaps or jazz. A slim 4 string jazz neck would probably seduce me more in the long run than a P. That classic jazz is still there...

I've been smoking a couple turkeys for 10 hours now and in between keeping an eye on the turkeys and working in the yard I've gotten some time to play around with the Roscoe's and my recording software.
I've had so much fun playing the STD JB model with the EB cobalt flats that I've forgotten totally about a P-Bass (at least until I read Steve's last post .....). :)

At any rate, here's a bass orchestra version of ABB's "Les Brers In Am" using my Roscoe's. I just love the tone on the bass during the intro. It so takes me back to 1973 ..............

All the way back to 1973, I must have been in kindergarten then...........

Played my Century 3005 J/MM in church this morning. Gee, what a great bass that is.

I actually did not take to this bass at first. It has 19mm string spacing and that felt slow to me until I set the string spacing as tight as the bridge allows. Now it feels just fine.

The electronics are certainly different. All three of my Roscoe basses have different PU configurations...the 5 has the J/MM, my fretless 6 has the usual Bartolini soapbars and my fretted 6 has J/J pu's near the bridge. They all sound great but each has its own voice. I have yet to hear a bad sounding Roscoe.

Been a bit quiet on this thread this week. I guess that I should stir things up a bit!:)

Still waiting on the HipShot Type A bridges from BBG for my 2 standards (the .708 is out of stock). Am I the only one that finds those bridges a bit annoying? Very easy to scratch the finish of the instrument when installing the E and B strings and if you use a cloth wrapped ball end string the B string simply won't fit (without removing some of the wrap).
I much prefer the Type A.

I would love to see a locking feature on the hipshot bridges. I've have one type A bridge where the saddles are prone to drift down. In the grand scheme of things, it isn't that big of a deal to apply loctite to the threads, but it would sure be nice to not have to worry about it. Might make it easier to keep my basses dialed in if I only have the neck to tend with.

Well, I did it. I went and visited my old college roommate and just had to take this home with me. I decided to show this more subtly than having my own NBD thread! I played this RMLE SKB Standard Plus and instantly fell in love!! Many thanks to RocketMusic. Please ignore the 2 six-stringers that made it into the shot! :)
