Thanks guys! Roger @THG always does a great job on the knobs.

Yeah Jeff, I'm sure that my lack of camera skills (and my 8 year old Cannon Power Shot) don't always do the tops justice. Especially when you compare them to what Jon and Jerry put out there. I suppose that I should at least invest in a decent camera.

I need help, I'm getting antsy. I bought an skb after being patient for 3 years, following it while I anguished over selling one of the best basses I've ever owned/played (my 55-94 of 10 plus years) to finance it, selling said 55-94 (cried a little) doing the cashiers check deal (seller against paypal use) and now waiting for shipment. Help talk me down.....

Looks like agreement to bass pushing 3 weeks :(

Had an audition for a Punk/Ska band and the Roscoe sounded great. Plenty of bite when needed and the same for depth. Perfect. Kind of cool that my practice/audition amp is a mid eighties , beat up trace 4-10 combo with a silver oven dial as my volume knob. Very punk rock !

This has been floating around TalkBass for a few years. It has found its permanent home!!

Great find! That's originally belonged to Mo and it's a really nice one. That was a custom build and Mo continued to refine it the entire time that he had it. It's got some really cool features with the extra wiring/switches.

Congrat's! That one deserves a nice home!

Hi,

I know this might have been asked before but... :hiding: what does the "wenge shim" add to the the overall tone? And how substantial is it? But I do quite like it aesthetically.;)

And with the shim, is the top thinner, thus less impact on tone from top wood?

Asking because I'm thinking of my not so distant future custom/signature build:D

Thanks!

Man, that's really hard to answer. Without building a bunch of similar basses with and without the shim... and even then, every piece of wood is different, even within a species. IMHO - I don't think anyone would be able to isolate the tonal effects of the shim.

I've got it on both of my personal Roscoes just 'cause I dig the way it looks.

^^^ Got to agree with Greg on this one. I really like the way it looks.

I will say this though, adding wenge to the body or neck of a Roscoe is a real good thing. :)

Thanks guys!

How about the top wood in this case with the shim? Does it have any impact on the tone? With a thinner body core (since there is a top, a shim, a back perhaps), will there be "less" fr the core wood?

And in your experience, does the glue itself affect the tone when so many pieces are joined together.

Reson I'm asking is I'm fr the one piece/maximum two piece school of thought, glue will add to the compression, etc. Seeking that I might have a "renewed" mind.:sly::D
