OMG you guys are killin me. I think after a while I am overwhelmed by all these beautiful Roscoes and I just can’t handle it. I want them all. Aghhhhhh. LOL. I’m so glad you guys are posting pics of your lovely Basses. Keep em coming.
I guess that I got a bad taste in my mouth of the Audre preamp back in the day when Roscoe offered them as a standard option (took the place of the Demeter). I owned 3 different ones and while 1 sounded OK the other two were extremely bland sounding. I believe that the main problem was that Roscoe decided to lock down the variable EQ pots typically located inside the control cavity (coated with silicon sealant) after they were set to the Roscoe spec). Gard had stated that they (Roscoe) felt that leaving them operable would lead to owners tweaking the settings, choosing BAD setting and it would reflect in a negative manner to Roscoe (as well as tying up support trying get the preamp's re-configured to where the bass sounded good again).
At any rate, I ended up pulling out all of mine and replacing them.
I suspect what Audre is selling now (and maybe the standard pre-s that they sold then) probably sound much better. I assume that they must since some of you guys are installing them and love them.

That’s kind of a tough spot to be in for Roscoe, but if it was me I’d probably have gone with another preamp instead of limiting the Audere. But I’m just a guy sipping on whiskey at the kitchen table, not a business owner

Ignore my project bass. She's not worthy of this thread. But everyone needs one bass that they aren't afraid to take apart, do some surgery, add/remove some stuff, and put back together again.
The only Roscoe I owned that I didn’t like the sound of was an SKB3006 with Nordstrand DC’s and the Audere preamp (beautiful bass, thuya burl top, wenge fretboard, etc). That one I didn’t keep long.
Funny, though, is that years later, I put Audere 4 band preamps in a pair of American Deluxe Jazz Basses, and loved them. That particular combo just didn’t work in that Roscoe, for me anyway.
I remember that bass Ryan. Beautiful bass!
But yeah, I think that the Audre (or at least that model pre) just didn't work well with the Roscoe. And the problem might also have been linked to combining it with the the Nord DC p/u's (as most of them were back in those days).
That’s a cold shot!! But he’d sell it once his new build is complete. He should have jumped on the LG Custom I had up for sale. I would have let it go for any fair price, and it came with both Demeter and Bart preamps.

So, I was talking with Mr. Keith Roscoe the other day, and then he sent me some photos of some particular wood types in his stock. . You know, the kind of wood one might like if they were to have a bass crafted by Roscoe Guitars. .
So, is a new Roscoe in the works?

I've got one in the works: Century Signature 5, Exhibition Box Elder Burl Front and Back, Wenge Shim, Black Limba Body, Wenge Wedge Neck, Pink Ivory Fingerboard, Bart Soaps, Bart OBP3 Pre with Active/Passive, Ivory Nut, Abalone 12th fret, Black Hardware.So, is a new Roscoe in the works?

Man! That's going to be a really nice one! You'll love the Wenge wedge neck. What p/u's are you going with? I never really bonded with the Aggie pre/Bart p/u combo. The Aggie with the Nords were a good match. Never heard the Aggie pre/Aggie p/u combo. I suspect that would work nice.
That one will be a looker for sure though. Box Elder top with the wenge shim should really look nice transitioning from the top to the Black Korina body. Can't wait to see finished pics.

I avoided these preamps based on your recommendation. However, I recently ran across a few great reviews of the Audere Pro-Z preamp and decided to purchase one to put in my premium Ibanez BTB with Aguilar DCB pickups. (I got the 3-band model with a 3-way mid frequency switch and z-switch.) It gave this bass new life. The preamp has a very natural, musical sound to it. I have a hard time putting this bass down now.
I misspoke, it is a Bart pre.
FWIW: I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Aggie Pre/Pickups combination. My SKB Standard is set up this way, and it's by far my favorite combination of any bass I've owned (and I've owne a few).
My Century Standard is Bart/Bart and it is taking me some time to get used to it because it's so different from the SKB, BUT it is REALLY alive. I'm finding that I need to eq a bit more to tame it b/c it can get REALLY bright. It sounds great in the mix!
That will be a really nice bass. Wenge is probably my favorite neck and fretboard and Boxwood burl is a beautiful top. The Aguilar Combo is my favorite in the Roscoe basses I've owned although I haven't really owned a nice Bart Combo. Can't wait to see the finished product.
