Roscoe Club

New build in the house. 1000+ thanks to Keith Roscoe and Rik Helderman for encouraging me through the build process and delivering my dream bass!

View attachment 3465609

This is an SKB custom 5 fretless, with preshaped body blank chosen from Roscoe's exisiting inventory, ash body and maple top, natural gloss finish, maple and purpleheart neck, epoxy-lined diamondwood fingerboard, diamondwood nut, Roscoe Bart soapbars, and Bartolini 3-band preamp.

This bass produces beautiful bloom and mwah, nice growl, fat tone from the neck pickup, and a myriad of tone options from use of the blend control, the Bart 3-band, right-hand positioning, and their combinations.

Visually, depending on body angle to light source, differing wood grain attributes are apparent. The flame maple shown above definitely pops. However, a very nice wood grain, running perpendicular to the flame (also evident above, lower bout left edge), is also prominent. This multi-faceted grain pattern is my favorite type of maple figure.

This is the one-and-only bass that I have commissioned. If you are considering a custom bass I highly recommend working with the folks at Roscoe. My experience with the build process and final product are 5-star positive (5 of 5 possible).

Happy, safe J4 to all in the Roscoe club.

Cheers brother! You're going to love that fingerboard, the growl, the mwah, the thunder of the B and the absolute amazing way the neck plays... It will ruin you on any other fretless.

I had some down time today and pulled out all of my basses and amps and did a show and tell with me, myself and I. And it's unanimous, I've got the best of both!

Seriously, I suspect that most of us agree that what we have is the best. If they weren't we replace them with what was the best (at least to us). Now I know that some of us think that we could always have one or two more ..... but I don't see redundancy as being more than the best. It's just more of the best!;)

My Roscoe (or Fenders) through the Aguilar AG700 or GB GBE750 through the Bergantino HT322 or HD112 cabinet(s) sounds mighty fine. The sheer tone and volume of either amp through that HT322 is just pure tone heaven (thank you JohnnyR).

I'm done. Just had to tell someone!:D

Happy July 4th/Independence Day!:hyper::hyper::hyper:

Alas, if I could only find a 322 within reasonable driving distance. What's killing me is that there is one for sale on Reverb for 500 bucks in California, but I'd pay that much in shipping to get it to me in NC.

Every time I play this LG it makes me take the for sale add down lol. I wish it had a nicer looking top and SKB body, but there’s no denying that it’s one of the best sounding basses I’ve ever played. I’m blessed to say with my amp, basses and pedal board I have the best overall rig and sound I’ve had.

That has one of my favorite tops that I've seen.

Nothing wrong with that top. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Just a different shade of green.

Wow, my last post in the club was March 2016 when parting with one of the most gorgeous SKBs I've seen (I was the original owner of this one, but it's made it to several other TB'rs since then) -

I was fortunate to own this other cocobolo beauty for awhile before that -

And now, thanks to Greg at Rocket Music, I'll be back in with my third Roscoe soon -

Before anyone says anything I spent $1,500 on a new Martin Acoustic for church and guitar teaching at school so I’m pretty sure my wife would kill me if I bought another instrument this summer. My only chance might be after we see John Mayer and Pino on August 4th. She loves how Pino sounds and likes the look as well.

I owned that first Cocobolo bass with the Wenge Sapwood fretboard 2 times and it was one of the top 3 Roscoes I've played. I also thought 2 different times of buying that 5JJ Roscoe you have coming. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on it.

My old SKB. Would love to have that one back. Amazing tone....extremely organic yet modern. AND JUST LOOK AT IT.

That's right...without going through my history on here, I couldn't remember exactly where and how I got that one. Again without looking, that was a deal involving Valenti #57 (I don't know why I can always remember the number on that one) I believe. Yes, that SKB was fantastic playing AND looking. The cocobolo basses they've put out have been  (including that one Plus model currently on Reverb).

Yes, that one is a good 'un for sure and I loved the knobs you had made for it. That's one I definitely wish I still had. Even though it wasn't a heavy weight by any means - ~9.5 lbs I believe - I always wished it was lighter.

I had read where Greg had made some sound samples awhile back of this JJ at your request. I've been eyeing it, but wasn't sure about the JJ config. I've been playing EBMM SR5s so we'll see how this one compares; I'm thinking I like it.

I've been looking for a good two pickup bass and had picked up a SR5HH Special. While it checked a lot of boxes, I decided, and really knew going in, I just like the StingRays better in single H configuration. With that, I have already reached out to the shop about what it would take to change this one to an MM/J if I want to go down that road. I'll certainly give it a chance as a JJ. Knowing what I know about the Roscoes I've had before, no doubt the playability on this one will be nothing short of stellar.
