Roscoe Club

Broke out the fretless for the first time in a long while

I had been thinking of selling this one as I haven’t been playing much at all... but every time I play her I realize that I will eventually in the future regret letting it go....

I heard a Facebook posting of a couple of the songs from yesterday’s service and that XYZ fretless (R.A.) sounded very good! Such a deep full tone. I had to be careful and not dig in too hard with my attach, but I was surprised at how well it sat in the mix.
I’m going to see if I can get/need permission to post them here.

I didn't play my fretless yesterday. I wish I had it as it would have been great for a couple tunes. Fortunately, either bass is (everyone together now) is a Roscoe so it sounds great no matter what.
We had a "cover band" gig Saturday night out of town till 1:00 am. I was in bed by 2:25 am so not bad, but I didn't feel like swapping basses and bags (I have a "main" bag that has IEM's and stuff) for my 8:00 am call time, so I just went fretted.

I'd be glad to check out your songs but it sounds like they may be better suited to the P&W thread.
I don't mind if you post a link here.

How about this LG3005 custom fretless from the highly missed Atlanta Bass Gallery? Another fabulous playing neck thanks to Roscoe Plek. Diamondwood unlined board, maple neck with purpleheart center lamination, swamp ash body, and maple top. Roscoe Barts with near-bridge slanted orientation, and Bart 3-band preamp. Plenty of burp, growl, and deep available with just some subtle turning of the balance pot, even with flatwounds.

I miss ABG!! Such a great place to check out basses not found in GC.
I bought a couple from there and it was in town!
I wonder what happened to that $10k Ritter bass that Jim had on the wall. I hope that Jim is doing well. If his health improves it would be great to see him reopen the store.

There was also a $6K Sadowsky in a display case!! He had some very nice personal basses. He suffered a stroke and his wife tried to keep things rolling with another salesperson, but then he passed and it just got to be too much. They were selling from their website, but that stopped as well.

Jim gave me a trade-in deal on a used Roscoe 6'er for a new the Roscoe Gloss Koa that I installed the Demeter in.

Oh, I didn't know he passed away. I am so sorry to hear that. Jim was always very nice to me when I visited his shop. IIRC, I bought a Zon fretless, two Roscoes and an Elrick from him. Only good memories there. Joe will remember a get together at his later location in Smyrna, GA. He was very gracious even though he had about 20 to 30 guys raiding his store.

Wait! You misunderstood me. It was the salesperson that died, who was also a bass player in the ATL (fretless was his bass of choice). As far as I know Jim is still alive, but I wouldn't have heard anything since I have no contact.

Oh that is great news Joe! Thanks for the update.

And thanks for your pic of your corroded battery connector. I replaced all my batteries and found a couple dead ones. I also discovered somthing I haven't seen before. In the Darkglass preamp in my Roscoe Classic, one battery is connected in series to the other. In other words, the red wire from one battery is connected directly to the other battery. Have you seen that before? (Also discovered the Classic is routed for PJ configuration, although I LOVE the JJ setup.)
