I feel that even though some of guys are quite closed minded on using flats I've got to tell you about my "flatwounds" of the month. Dunlop SS Flats are the bee's knees! They feel great and have an awesome tone in the mix. Perfect amount of tnesion too. Slightly less than La Bella DTF's and Daddario Chromes.

Try the Dunlops on your Roscoe P-bass Steve. I like their sound better than the La Bella's and they have just slightly less tension (at the same gauge 45-105). They really have a great feel and sound.
Really nice in a mix too. Probably not the right string for a Rush tune but I thought I'd see how it sat in the mix. Probably an YYZ pedal would have helped (although Goldwave left just enough of Geddy's playing to add the OD edge).

Really nice tone. That’s the 1 flat I haven’t tried. Still like the TI coasts better but those are some I may have to try out.

That’s a great bass sound! I’ll have to try those strings at some point. I’ve got TI flats on my old P bass and my fretless jazz and Chromes on my Godin fretless and I like those sets. I have a set of Fender 9050s waiting to go on my PJ when the current Boomers go dead. Haven’t tried flats on my Roscoe - I love the sound of the XL170s too much!

Flats do sound great in a mix, I can tell you from my experience pedals (including OD) do seem to really like flats (especially P bass), my guess it has to do with the difference in overtones/harmonics or something? I’ve tried the sadowsky flats on a stack knob Jazz bass and it was the best sounding jazz I ever had. :(

I'm assuming you are comparing to the standard LaBella flats. Comparing them to the LaBella Low Tension Flats would be very different. The LTF's are my favorite strings. There are other flats that I love (DR makes amazing flatwounds) but the LTF's win out for me every time.

Yes and yes.
I’ve never tried the LTF’s Andy. I’ve heard great things about them though.

Guys I did it! Cleaned and restrung a bass, and all of the tuners lined up! :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: I'm sure the ball ends match, too, but I haven't checked yet.
