Thanks for the reply but I love the Pope and would rather keep it in this bass. It is outstanding! Plus, it's an easy swap with pickups as opposed to changing out the entire pre. There are so many pickups that I have never heard in a Roscoe and just want to try something different. more aggressive, more lively.

You might want to look into Nordstrand Big Singles for an aggressive rowdy single coil sound.

Opinion: Leave that one alone, and get a new roscoe with wenge. You know you like maple, but don't know about the others yet so better to "mess up" a good bass?.

Keith got back to me (very quickly) and pretty much said the same thing. The neck re-carve is very reasonable $$$, so I'll be sending it in for that next month, but he advised against the fingerboard swap (and said the results may not be what I want), so I will leave well enough alone (somewhat ;)).

From another thread. But... I'm curious about the reverse slant LG Barts.

On my fretless they really give the high end some zing that may be lost when you lose metal frets. I really like that configuration. I seriously doubt I'll ever demote my fretless from #1.

But on a fretted... It may be different. I love my PJ. It rocks the right sound when I need it to- (mainly when someone tells me that I need to play a Fender P, I play it instead and get the, "Wow, that low end is... sexy!"

I'm an LG guy, and I know I want one more LG3005 with Roscoe Barts and a Bart pre. But the reverse slant... That may be what I'm looking for.

It's definitely a different flavor. I've only ever owned an SKB with straight pickups so I'm not sure how much brighter the standard slant makes the higher strings but since I was wanting a sweeter higher register, the reverse slant worked out perfect for me.

I’m not much of a gambler. I went to Las Vegas once and learned my lesson. But in this case, I took a bit of a gamble with this Roscoe LG that I found in the classified ads, and I believe I’ve come out on top. Maybe you saw it. The pics were not good, but the price was right. It has a myrtle top and body. Quite unusual for Keith to do that unless it was a custom order. To say the least, I’m very pleased with the looks and the tone. I always had a fondness for the purpleheart sapwood fretboards that Keith used back in the day. Classic Roscoe if you ask me! I remember seeing that bass and it definitely looks better that the sellers bad pics. Very nice bass.
