Roscoe Club

. . Now I remember why I don't follow this thread constantly. . I look at my 2 standard plus basses with sadness. .
I never pitied any Roscoe owner, especially one like you, having a unique and beautiful Pink Ivory top Century Standard Plus 5, mahogany body, wenge board, Bart 3-band, and Bart M/M and Jazz pups.

And, then there's your beautiful Rocket Music Limited Edition (RMLE) Roscoe SKB Standard Plus 5, photo bombing in the background left. Gorgeous Buckeye Burl top, Aguilar 3-band, and Aguilar DCB soapbars. Those are yours, right?

Man, oh man, I bet you can cover a lot of tonal ground with those two basses. Both of your Roscoes are amazing from my perspective, matching up quite well with other fine basses in the Roscoe lineage.

At practice this morning and getting a run Through with the whole band and these Aguilar electronics cut like butter. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a pickup cut with such ease. Still getting used to the tone but I love the cut. Overall it’s not as smooth and Thick sounding as the Roscoe Bart’s but the clarity and punch are unreal. Also the tone control for the Aguilar is much more subtle as you roll off the tone in either active or passive as compared to the Bartolini preamp. Really makes the tone feature of this preamp much more useable IMO.

Got my new 2020 Spalted Myrtle SKB3005 in and it is really nice. The Aguilar Super Doubles sound great along with the Wenge woods gives one of the best growls I’ve played. I think it’s more clear and punch over the Roscoe Bart’s I’m used to. The woods on this bass compliment each other and are my favorite tonewoods. Keith nailed the weight in this as it’s the lightest one yet at 8.4 pounds.

Interesting idea........

The starting point for a "Franken" something is usually an incomplete or "ragged" out starting point. I'm sure they exist but I don't recall seeing such a Roscoe.

I'd be up for the challenge though.

;)

Which model do you think might work best? I wonder if Joe has created one? He’s always tinkering around with basses. :)

HMMMMMMMMMMM

My first thought (strictly a knee jerk) is that the starting point has to be the neck. IMHO the Roscoe neck is where the magic happens, not the model.

In a perfect world, the neck would be a salvaged Wenge wedge neck off an old Signature. A five string of course. Next choice would be a Custom neck with a Wenge center. But then, there's nothing wrong with a Purpleheart center.

Try to keep the birthdate for all the "Franken" parts post 2000. Consistency seemed to really improve around that time.

I'd go with a Century body for myself. Not so much for aesthetics, but for the slightly larger lower cutout. I play sitting so the larger lower cutout is important to me.

That should stir the pot a bit.

I agree with the back type. So, we need an old, pre-2000 5’er Roscoe Wenge Wedge neck and a body that the neck wouldn’t normally be found on.
The LG body is too small. The Century would be the better choice.
Where would we find these parts?

Yeah... not toooo sad with mine! :smug: Definitely a very versatile pair, the grass is always greener or something.

Here's one that I've been working on. The idea is to create something that could accomplish a clean sweep of the competition.:D

:roflmao: I’m certain that HSC is an overkill for that one stringer, when a gig bag will do. I mean a garbage bag!
What do you tell your grand baby when she’s looking for her broom?
