Roscoe Club

Thinking about having a exotic Classic Modern Roscoe made with Ash and a really nice Buckeye or Quilted Maple top. Want to have Ebony and Abalone inlays. For electronics I want to have the Nordstrand NJ5 Hum canceling single coils and Nordstrand 3 band preamp with VTC. Also Keith is seeing about doing a matching Exotic veneer on the headstock. Said he’s done 1 in the past.

I vote the quilted maple. Fender style basses just loose their appeal to me with over “the top” woods.
Of course I also prefer pick guards on Fender style basses too.
Different strokes for different folks though.

I’ll go one step further. I really like a “F^#*#^” style bass to be a solid color OR just the natural wood of an ash (or alder) body. I could maybe go as far as a flame maple. But as you said, different strokes.

I’d actually like a classic jazz 5 in a shell pink finish. Matching headstock. White pickguard. Rosewood board, maybe block inlays.

:D
To be fair, the classic series are FSO’s (Fender Shaped Object), so it is pretty hard not to mention them.

Sounds like Steve is planning his next build as well... Keith is never going to get my bass done if you guys keep buying new basses ;)

Just 2 more weeks!

I know, know! You don’t want no Fop!
You’re a Dapper Dan man!:D

You guys are so funny with your non ability to mention another bass. Lol

At first I thought Steve had typed in a coded cuss word!
Then I realized it was coded for Fender.

Seriously, we are all adults (well most of us anyway).
It’s ok to spell our Fender, Musicman, Ibanez, Demon (I mean Devon), MTD, Smith ..... etc ..... on the Roscoe thread.

You guys are so funny with your non ability to mention another bass lol. There is a whole big world out there with lots of great bass gear.
Club threads, in contrast, are part of a small world typically devoted to a specific brand. Club thread participants are usually supporters and admirers of that brand. So it is on the Roscoe club thread, like just about every other active club thread on TB that I've ever viewed.

If I want to talk about XYZ gear, extolling its great virtues and features, or just want to learn more about that brand, I go to the related XYZ club thread. Once there, I respect the club boundary by supporting the spirit of admiration and respect in the club thread, and participant choice, preference, and taste in XYZ.

When I am in the Roscoe club, I focus on Roscoe, enjoying camaraderie of fellow admirers or enquirers. I find club thread participation most enjoyable when I flavor my opinions and comments with respect, rather than provocation and/or antagonism.

Do you honestly think it causes harm when you just mention another brand. I love Roscoe’s as much as pretty much anyone. I visit many of the other clubs and I haven’t seen another club that is armament of not even spelling out about her brand or mentioning it as XYZ lol. That’s all I’ll mention of it.

I love my Roscoe Classic 5ver, currently at the shop to fix a tuner key that was bent, pure cosmetic. I could possibly be interested in another. The only complaint is that it weighs more than a boat anchor, but I also think it has the best tone due to its wood combo/weight.
I think the earlier Classics was really heavy and over 10 pounds. He says he’s been able to get them in the under 9.5 pound range now.

I'm definitely jonesin' for an XYZ bass, but I'm having trouble getting ahold of the luthier.

I too, have noticed weight specs for the classics are high, the 5s are a couple pounds heavier than my century 5. Is there an option for chambering the body to lessen the weight? A classic 5 under 8.5lbs would be nice, but I’ve seen listed as 10+.

This guy’s was light, but it’s a 4.

SOLD - Roscoe Classic Jazz 4 Brand New!!!

Keith did post on FB that he got a whole bunch of light alder in, a lot of the earlier classics had poplar bodies, maybe that’s why they’re heavier?
