some details on that beauty please.... I must know....
I am gonna guess Standard Plus 5, Ash Body and Quilted Maple Top.... How did I do? I think I am fully infected now....
Anyone do an A/B with the Roscoe/Bart or Classic Barts against the Aguilar DCB D4 pickups? If so, what is the difference?
My bass went from Nordy DCs/OBP-3 => Nordy DCs/Pope => Aggie DCBs/OBP-3. I also have a Century 3006 with Roscoe Barts/Bart pre and ash body, maple board to compare to. The Century is about as classic a Roscoe sound as you can get.
I wasn't big on the the first iteration of my SKB. It sounded fine, maybe a close comparison to Bart CBs. But, there was some mud in the top end. I thought the pickups just needed to be opened up more so, I went with a Pope preamp which I figured was as transparent as I could get. I was wrong. I had to EQ the bejesus out of it to get a usable tone. The mids were almost uncontrollable.
I played one of Greg's basses with DCBs at the last GTG and fell in love. So, I ripped out the guts out of mine and put a brand new set it. Wow, they changed everything. I've found the best tone is flat, maybe a smidge of bass. The top end doesn't have the mud that it had before.
Compared to the Barts it's like Roscoe with even more Roscoe. The Aggies have all the good stuff the Barts have just more of it. And, I might even say they are a cleaner sounding if that makes any sense.
I'll post up a country tune I worked on in a little bit. I pretty much live on the B string the whole time but, you'll get the idea.
Hey, has anyone heard from Jome77, I haven't seen him on here lately and when I called his cell I got his voicemail?

Here's my write up from a few pages ago:

I thought about trying a set of the Aggies, I took the Nord DCs out and put Roscoe Barts in place. I have a Demeter preamp so I am wondering how the highs will be. With the Roscoe/Barts I can keep the highs at 0, with the DCs I had to cut the highs almost all the way. How are the highs on the Aggies compared to the others?

Hmmm, I always thought that the Nords needed a bump in the highs with the OBP-3 and the Pope. I figured they were just muffled pickups.
Used the 6 at "Footloose" rehearsal tonight. I'm playing for our high school show. Last minute fill in. Man did it sound great. And the C string came in handy. I lost my spot/string a couple times but I'm gonna use it for the run next week.
