Roscoe Club

I strung up my new to me Roscoe with DR black beauties last week for a gig. I dont care for them. I found them to have too harsh of a feel for me.
I use sunbeams on my beat up Alembic, and like them, so I think ill try them on the Roscoe next.

+1 - DR Sunbeams FTW. On my 35" Roscoes, I've recently switched from .045 to .040. The reduced string tension feels nice to my fingers, and the tone is awesome...

Pretty sure that's where I am headed with my 35" basses as well (Sunbeams in the lighter gauge)

I did this after hearing Jerry (Vroom Vroom) rave about a 34" Lull 5 string he played at Gelb in San Fran. "Slinky" was the word he kept using, and it got me thinking about string tension... I slapped a set of .040-.120 Sunbeams on my 35" Lull M5V just to try it. And then I very quickly decided to do the same to both of my Roscoes. I haven't looked back since, although I do still occasionally pine for TI Jazz flats on the fretless...

Hmmm…I've been a 45-125guy for a long time. Maybe it's time to experiment with the next set on my 5.

I went 30-125 Hi Beams for my 6.

OT: There sure are a lot of nice Roscoe's in the classifieds these days….

I liked TI Flats so much on my fretless that I decided to try them on my fretted. Haven't taken'em off yet (that was about three months ago :hyper:)

Strings selection (for the most part) boils down to personal taste (tone, tension, etc.). If you're happy, you got the right ones. ;)

Truer words were never spoken, Johnny. If you think it's good... it's good! :D

OK, bumpin it up with a little pre-noon Roscoe love.... just need a fix of Roscoe centered discussion to get me through Grumpy Government Employee Tuesday.

I am a string freek and have a stash of different strings for different occassions. I have also discovered the joy of different guages as well as tuning to Eb for certain gigs and also a huge fan of TI and LaBella's. But I am def looking forward to some Sunbeams on my Roscoes....:bassist:

(here's where you chime in and disagree, surely they should be FREE today)

great idea! i'll take this one please.
