LOL. Joe got it from me new, IIRC. And it may have had another home or two since, although I don't know why. That's a killer bass. Sometimes guys do fall out of love with 6'ers once they get one, I guess that might be going on here...

Amen brother, amen! It is worse than any Crack, Oxycontin or a Heroine addiction. Doctor told me he has never seen anyone cured, though they can mask the symptoms for a little while they always fall back into the trap and support groups only prolong the inevitable.

I have a 5, my 6 is "in transit" and there are a couple fretless 5's in the classifieds I'd love to have - especially at the prices they are listed. If my wonderfully understanding wife wouldn't kill me (even she has her limit) I'd have a fretless 5 on the way as well. That and one of the Aguilar PJ 5's (like the one in Greg's shop) and I'd be set.

I've owned Roscoe 5s and 6s, and they're all amazing. But there is something about a Roscoe 5 string neck. It's *exactly* what a bass should feel like.

That's a hell of a price for that Century fretless in the classifieds. It's a nice example of an early Standard. If I had not bought my SKB last month I would be getting that one.
Same here. Waiting for my 6 to show up. My wife would not be pleased if I had 2 basses in transit.

I loved the Roscoe 6s that I owned. Great necks on all of them.
But the 5s are just simply perfection. IMHO.
The 5 necks are great (as I adjust my SKB 3005 JJ truss rod due to our whacky winter weather).....
Joe traded it to me. I fell in love with it immediately. I almost get sentimental talking about it. That neck is to die for. But it was the tone -- and I've owned several Roscoes -- that I had been looking for... forever. Now this is just my opinion, but to my ears it had a modern, mid-scooped signature Bartolini tone that I love. And I haven't heard exactly that tone since.
GAS got the best of me and I let it go. I kept telling myself that I didn't need a 6 string bass. And that's true, but boy do I miss it. I know that Joe still thinks highly of that bass too. We've talked about it often. What bass do I regret letting go the most? This one.
So glad to know the bass has such a good rep. It sounds good but the action is slightly higher and the strings have a tad more tension than I like. I ordered a new set for it and just got them so I will prob do a set up and get it dialed in for me. It is cool because the fretless has the Demeter pre in it and has such a different tonal pallet than the fretted.
Any way thanks for all the info and comments. And on to the next Roscoe! Need that fiver to be my regular gigging bass.
One beautiful thing about Roscoe basses (at least every one I have owned) is that they are capable of stupid low action, while remaining completely playable. Strings under the frets type of action.......
