Roscoe SoundClips 3 (from Roscoe Forum)

Someone sent me a copy of an old R & B tune this week and and it reminded me just how great the 60-70's R&B stuff sounded!
The original version of this one featured the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section with David Hood playing bass. Those guys really put out some hits!
I could help but fool around with it some with my recording software.

Pretty quick and dirty but it's all about the groove in this one.

I played the main bass part with my Roscoe Century V and the chordal and solo parts with my Roscoe 3006 Sig.

The song I was working on in the studio last month was supposed to be released on 10/11/2012. But, the artist has decided to rework everything so, this song is probably being trashed and reworked. So, I'm posting it anyway because I really like it however, I'm not going to post the name of the song or the artist. It is just a rough mix and has not been mastered. Hopefully, I'll get to work on the whole album at the first of the year.

I am playing my SKB-3005 in single-coil mode through a REDDI and an Ampeg SVT though an 810.

Two things...

First, I agree, this is a great track, and it sure seems a shame to dump it... even if what replaces it is just as good or even better.

Second, ok, don't tell us who this is, but can you tell me when the next release date is for whatever this "project" is? I wanna' buy a copy. :)

You can count on it. She really is amazing. Right now they are writing and booking shows around south Atlanta. They think they want to go in a more Nora Jones or Adele direction instead of Americana.

Funny, but I was already gonna' comment about how she reminds me of those two, and, to some extent, Natalie of Pomplamoose (whom I also love).

I guess that I'll show my ignorance by saying that I've never heard of Nora Jones, Adele or even a style called Americana! :o

.....but I really love the sound of her voice and the mandolin in that song really sounds nice. Great tune!
The bass is sitting nicely in the mix too Joel. :cool:

Americana is one of those all inclusive genres. When it's not really country, bluegrass, rock, jazz, R&B or pop but, it is decidedly American then you get Americana.

The engineer says that the myrtle SKB is one of the best basses he has ever recorded. He was very surprised by how versatile and clear it is.

Off topic but Norah Jones is Ravi Shankar's daughter. Ravi was the sitar player at Woodstock and the guy who taught George Harrison the instrument.

Joe, nice take on "I'll Take You There", really dig that tune. Played it a gazillion times back when I was in a house band on Bourbon St., and always looked forward to that solo section. :)

Joel....wow, what a GREAT tune, and they'll canning it? :eek: :hmm: Nice groove on it, by the way, love it. :)

It's always amazing to me when I think about how those cats came up with those classic tunes on the fly in the studio. Everyone in the band leaving just the right amount of space for each other. Knowing where and when to play a note and sometimes even more important, where and when not to! ;)

Dude, that's a GREAT song. I wish I could find other musicians like that in my area.

I had a little time this morning so I recorded an instrumental version of Talk Talk's song "It's My Life". I always really liked the bass part and was reminded recently of how cool the tune was.
This one features my Roscoe Century V on the main bass parts and my Roscoe 3006 signature on the solo's.
It was recorded using Reason 6.5
