I propose a new pickup configuration in honor of Steve. We'll call it a JCBMMRB - all of the options smashed together into one huge uni-pickup. There will be more switches than an Alembic.
Can anyone photoshop that up?

I deserve that. I over think everything.
One thing I do know after the session this afternoon - involving new tunes learned 15 minutes prior and transpositions - that I need (not just want ) a 5 string.
I feel ya brother. There's a reason why I only own five strings. I so rarely go below a low E but, the added fingering options are almost essential.
It's been a while since I've post on this thread and since it's Christmas I thought that I'd work out a Christmas song. It's a Bass Orchestra (with a little keyboard) version of "The First Noel" and it's based on a version by David Crowder.
I used my Roscoe 3006 signature (Mahoganut) for all fretted bass parts & my Roscoe 3006 fretless for the fretless solo. I recorded it using Reason 6.5.

Thanks Jeff. I added a few more parts and remixed it this morning. The hardest part on this tune was trying to get a good gradual build using primarily the bass drum and snare drum. It makes me appreciate drummers even more!

We'll I've got another grandson due to be born next Thursday so keeping with the tradition here's a new song dedicated to him. His name will be Neil Lanier Talton III and he'll be called "Tate". Since he's Ellie's little brother I thought that it would be fitting to write a song that was inspired by Ellie's song. This song is a "Bass Orchestra" tune and features my Roscoe 3006 signature bass. I recorded it using Reason 6.5.
I'll probably add a bridge later this week but time to do some chores on the "honey do list"!

I love the opening of the tune, it fits the moment perfectly. It sounds like somebody important is being announced at a formal ball.

Being primarily a country bass player, I would like to tell you how much I enjoyed your cut from Vince Gill's song. The fills through out the song are so tasty and melodic. I can tell that everyone is aching to stretch out, as players, but being the seasoned players they seem to be, they stay within the pocket, and give the song and vocals plenty of room to flow. What a joy it must be to play in this band. Well done Bass brother, and always remember that simplicity is the truest form of art. Would also like to say that knowing the song as well as I do, I felt the warmth and sincerity in your playing that Mr. Gill was trying to convey, in his message in this song. Keep the sound clips coming.
Oh, yeah, how did I miss that clip? VERY nice job, Mark! I love the space throughout, and I think the vocalist is really going to have a good time singing on top of that gorgeous soundscape.
Yeah, I hear what you're saying. It does seem to formally proclaim Tate's birth during the opening of the tune.
Hopefully Tate will have a very smooth arrival!
Thanks Pedulla-2007 and Greg. The less is more with big spaces is a challenge to keep a pocket, but I think we pulled it off. I am blessed to be able to work with musicians of this quality, and happy I can finally post something here!

Hard to remember that intervals are just as important, as the notes we do play. You guys really compliment each other, keep up the good work!

If you listen closely you'll even hear the person that really doesn't play but came out to just hang around with a bunch of cool bass players!

Not really! Our GTG's here in Georgia are totally disorganized too!
Just a bunch of wild and crazy bass players all playing different songs at the same time!
..... at least in my sound clip I did play all the different licks to songs in the same key ... kind of sort of ......
