Roscoe SoundClips 3 (from Roscoe Forum)

Here's my new (to me) Roscoe Century Standard+ JJ 6 string! Just got it today, courtesy of JOME77.

Here's a quick and dirty (and poorly played) recording of it right here:

I transcribed the song from Tony Grey's debut album, Moving..., released back in 2004. It's the last track on there, called "Lullaby for Life." Forgive my poor and inconsistent playing. I haven't worked on the tune in a while, and I was rushing to get back to work from my lunch break. Just had to play it when it arrived this morning!

The bass has a mahogany body with a koa top, 3-piece maple neck and birdseye maple fingerboard. Strings seem to be brand-spanking-new. I recorded it direct with a Presonus AudioBox using Apple Logic Pro. The 2nd version has some EQ, compression and light reverb (also hastily added).

The "new to me" Roscoe LG3006 (thanks Jon) arrived yesterday afternoon and you know that I had to see how it would record. I haven't had much time to write anything new so I thought that I'd chose a tune that allowed me to see how the bass handled several basic styles of playing.
Here's a version of "Polo Man" alias Grant Wilson Fair (Happy 3rd Birthday Grant!). It has 8 different tracks of bass and covers the sound of the low B, root style playing, chordal playing, slap style and a couple solo's.
The biggest surprise has been the Audere preamp. I've had 4 other Roscoe's with the Audere and I only kept it in one of those basses. But, that being said, I never tried it in an ash bodied Roscoe. Surprise, surprise! I really like the sound of this bass. I'm really able to dial in nice tines quickly on this bass. I actually recorded all 8 bass tracks during my lunch today (30-40 minutes) and didn't have to fight the bass at all. I think that I was most surprised with how easily it got a decent slap tone.
The Audere might just stay in this one!

I did install a fresh set of Roscoe D'Addario strings prior to the recording and the bass plays like "butter" (just not as greasy!).

I was doing fine with the CS6J+ until Jon had to go and list this one. I need to weigh it but I'm thinking that it's got to be just over 8 lbs. Definitely the lightest Roscoe 6 that I've held (:hmm: also the first LG-3006; the smaller body probably figures into that).

Thanks Jon! Yeah, I'm really digging the tones in this bass. I figured that the Audere would be the first thing to go but now I'm not so sure. The Audere work on a solid maple 3005 that I had and I guess that it works with ash too. Come to think of it I liked it in Gard's ash fretless too. :hmm:

You definitely need to start a thread on your Haslip inspired build. I'm looking forward to seeing that one come along!

There's really not any difference to me in the feel of the LG verse the SKB.
The necks feel identical and the upper fret access is pretty much the same too.
I think it comes down to which body style you prefer.
I think that there are quite a few players that prefer the longer top horn of the century over the SKB & LG but I'm not one of those. I've just always preferred the SKB & LG. They hang on a strap just fine for me.:)

This particular LG-3006 is certainly much lighter than my SKB 3006 fretless. This LG is by far the lightest 6 string that I've ever owned.

It's been a couple of weeks since I post a sound clip but I had some time to record this afternoon and worked out another "Bass Orchestra" worship tune. This one's called "I'm Forgiven".

Of course I used my Roscoe LG-3006 fretted and SKB-3006 fretless on the tune. You can see the spec's in my profile.

This one's really in a rough draft state but with the G-kids spending the weekend I doubt that I'll get any time to clean it up this weekend. I figured I'd post it as is and update it later in the week.
